Ashworth Academic Bowl Team-Best in the County 9/7/2008 The Ashworth Academic Bowl team improved its record to two wins and no losses on Thursday. Aside from getting off to a good start on their region schedule, these two wins are especially important to the Braves for another reason-bragging rights. Ashworth's first two opponents were Calhoun and Sonoraville East middle schools, and wins over these schools amounts to an unofficial county championship. Ashworth will face its fellow Gordon County schools again at a post-season tournament, but the team isn't focused on that right now. "We have some lofty long term goals and the talent to accomplish them, but we know that most of the season still lies ahead of us," said Eric Emmett, a social studies teacher and coach of the Ashworth team. The team is also coached by Susan Burgess, a science teacher.  |
