6^th Grade Field Trip Information

Dear Parents,

  This school year your child will have the opportunity to participate in two field trips. The first field trip will be Monday, November 9 to the Tellus Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville. The permission form for this field trip is attached to this letter. The cost of the trip is $20.00 per student. This fee will cover admission to the museum, which includes time in the museum's gallery, participation in a scientific lab experiment, a hands-on activity such as gem panning or fossil digging, as well as a trip to the museum's planetarium. The fee also includes a Chick-fil-A boxed lunch and drink. If parents would like to attend as chaperones they may for $20.00 per parent. The payment deadline for this trip is September 11. No payments will be accepted after this date.

The second trip will be on Monday, May 10 to the Breman Jewish Heritage Center and Holocaust Museum and the World of Coke in Atlanta. The cost of the field trip is $60.00 per student. The cost includes transportation on an air conditioned Leisure Time Motor Coach, admission to the Breman Museum and the World of Coke, as well as a full lunch at the Hard Rock Café. Because of the cost of the trip, parents will be allowed to make installments beginning in January. The first installment of $20.00 will be due on January 15, the second on February 15, and the third by March 15. No payments will be accepted after March 15 . Parents may attend this field trip for the same cost. This will be an extended day field trip with the students returning to school around 6:00PM.

These field trips are designed to enhance your child's learning experience and expand on what is being taught in our classrooms. In order for students to get the most out of their experience, they are encouraged to work hard in the classroom and exhibit good behavior. Students who have chronic behavior problems will not be allowed to participate in field trips. If a student has had more than two detentions, more than two days of ISS, or any OSS days served before the November trip, they are not eligible to attend. Students will be ineligible for the May trip if they have any OSS days or more than one trip to ISS. If a student makes any payments for the trip and is later deemed ineligible because of behavior, the money is NOT refundable.

*** Parents please note that if you attend as a paid chaperone, the 6^th grade teachers will need your help accompanying a small group of children.

***Field Trip Information***

  Students will depart from Ashworth no later 8:15AM. Students need to be at school no later than 7:45AM or they will be left behind.

  The bus will return to the school at approximately 2:45 PM. No afterschool activities will be interrupted by this trip.

  Lunch will be provided in the cost of the trip by Chick-fil-A. The students will eat at the Tellus Museum. Students may bring extra money for the gift shop if they would like; otherwise, they do not need any extra money.

  Cell phones, MP3 players, IPods, etc. are permitted on the bus, but the school is not responsible for these or other lost or stolen items. Any items left on the bus are left at the risk of the owner.

  Students will be expected to follow all schools rules while on the trip. These rules will be reviewed with the students prior to leaving the school. Students will be expected to stay with their appointed chaperone for the safety of the group.
