Tolbert Elementary School held it's annual school spelling bee on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Dozens of family and friends gathered in the lunchroom to watch nineteen of the fourth and fifth grade classroom winners battle it out for the school level championship. The competition was fierce and spellers completed several rounds before the first student was eliminated.
In the end, after 1 1/2 hours of competition, the winning 8th grade level word was spelled by Heaven Campbell, fifth grade. Heaven will complete in the system level spelling bee on February 5, 2010 at the Harris Arts Center. John Flores, fifth grade TES School Spelling Bee runner-up will attend as an alternate.
