Ashworth Middle School was one of only five middle schools across the state to be awarded the Silver Award for Academic Achievement by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement. "This is more evidence of the hard work that our students, faculty, staff, parents and school community have invested in making Ashworth a wonderful place to learn and work," said Principal Scott McClanahan. The award was recognition for strides made during the 2008-2009 school year. Ashworth Middle School's achievement gains were recognized for being in the top 4 percent of all middle schools in Georgia for performance gains on the Criterion Referenced Competency Test. Schools being considered had to meet Adequate Yearly Progress two consecutive years under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, and have more than 25 percent of students exceeding standards set by Georgia.
