 TASK: 

Each student will explore this question through the point of view of a participant in World War I: a pilot, a nurse, a soldier, or a civilian at home.
You will use primary source documents - letters, diaries, photos - and other resources.

Each student will create a PowerPoint presentation that helps the rest of the class learn about the experience of this participant in World War I.

This class covers the history of the world.  We will discuss the cultures and history of each area. We will also discuss current events of these areas and how these events affect us here in the United States.

Classroom Rules

When the bell rings: be seated in assigned seat with all materials ready to learn.

Show respect to all people, equipment and furnishings through speech, gestures, and attentiveness.  This includes teachers, peers, and guests.

Follow directions quickly the first time they are given.

Follow appropriate procedures for the activity.

Classroom Consequences: If You Choose To Break A Rule.

First time:Teacher/student conference.

Second time:Teacher/student conference, beginning of discipline log for student.

Third time:   Phone call to parents

Fourth time:   Formal Detention or Parent/Teacher/Student Conference

Fifth time:Student referred to Principal as with any severe disruption

Daily Materials

  Textbook (World History - Patterns of Interaction, McDougal-Litton, 2005; replacement fee = $50.00), notebook (3-ring binder), college rule paper, pencil, blue/black ink pens, colored pencils

Grading Policy

■  Limit of 3 days to make-up work with an excused absence; work with an

unexcused absence receives a zero.

■  Assignments given prior to absence and due on date absent are due the first day

student returns to school. Examples:  papers, projects, et cetera.

■  To receive full credit for work all assignments given for In-School-Suspension

must be completed; student will receive a zero for all missed assignments due

to an Out-of-School Suspension.

■  It is the STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY to contact teacher for information

regarding make-up work.  Remediation may be necessary to ensure

mastery of objectives.

■  Refer to School Policy for absences and make-up work.

■  Extra credit is not available for any reason.

§   You may re-take a quiz or test, but the highest grade you can

receive is a 70.

Explanation:   Tests are given to report students' mastery of a cumulative set of objectives.  Quizzes are given regularly throughout a unit as a guideline for me as the teacher over specific objectives covered the day before.  These quizzes let me know which material is fully understood by students and which may need to be remediated.  While these are reported grades a student may, with remediation, improve any and every formative score.  Any project assigned will be a combination of Daily and Summative scores and students will be provided a rubric for such assignments. There will be no field trips. We will also view educational segments from PBS, the History Channel and the Discovery Channel.
