  • Following conversations with community leaders and high school administrators concerning additional safeguards for preventing the spread of COVID-19, Gordon County Schools has made the decision to continue the hybrid schedule for our high schools through March 5. The schedule for in-person instruction will be Mondays and Tuesdays for students whose last names begin with the letters A-K and Thursdays and Fridays for students with last names beginning L-Z. Classes are tentatively scheduled to resume full-time in-person instruction on March 8.

    Gordon County Schools continues to carefully monitor its active cases that impact schools and works closely with healthcare and community leaders to help mitigate our community spread. To that end, Gordon County Schools has found it necessary to move to a hybrid instructional model for both Gordon Central and Sonoraville high schools beginning Monday, February 8. The tentative return date to full-time, in-person instruction will be Monday, February 22. The decision to temporarily move to a hybrid schedule for Gordon Central and Sonoraville High is a precautionary measure and comes following an increase in active COVID cases, resulting in a higher number of precautionary quarantines.

    During this change in the instructional delivery model, students will continue to receive instruction from their assigned classroom teachers utilizing Schoology but will only attend school in-person two days per week, based upon the student’s last name. Having only half of the students in class at one time will allow for additional distancing among students within the classroom. The initial week will follow that two-day per week model; however, because the 2nd week encompasses winter break, and February 15-17 are already scheduled to be student holidays, there will be a variation from the set schedule.

    Instruction will be provided according to the pictured schedule.

    The situation will be re-evaluated at the end of the second week of hybrid instruction. Should a continuation of the model be deemed necessary, the schedule will follow the 2 days/per week model as outlined for February 8-12. If a family has children in the same household who would be on a different schedule following this plan, please contact the school to make any necessary accommodations for children to attend together.

    Extracurricular activities will continue, unless otherwise notified by the school. Meals can still be obtained at school free of charge for any student who wishes to participate. More information on how to obtain these meals will be released from the schools. This closure does not impact any other Gordon County school, and all other schools will operate as normal.

  • Gordon County Schools is trying to make sure that high school students have access to food while on the hybrid schedule for the next few weeks.  Arrangements are currently being made for students not scheduled to be in the building next week (students with last names beginning L – Z) to pick-up 5 days of breakfast and lunch this Friday (October 23).

    Students or parents/guardians of students with last names beginning L – Z who plan to pick-up meals this Friday, October 23 please complete the form found here by 5pm today (Wednesday, October 21) to help us get an idea of the number of meals we need to have ready to distribute.

    Going forward, students who are in the building will be able to take the 5-day meal package home on Fridays prior to their week of on-line learning, so students or parent/guardians of students with the last names beginning A – K do not need to complete the form.

    Meal Service for Gordon Central High School and Sonoraville High School during Virtual Learning and Hybrid Learning:

    • For the week of 10/19 through 10/23 Breakfast and Hot Lunch Meals will be provided for GCHS and SHS Students free of charge available in the Bus Loop for pick up from 10:30am to 12:15pm, Monday thru Friday. Students are encouraged to come to their respective high schools, but if there is another school closer- they are able to go pick up from that location as well.

    • For the week of 10/26-11/30 when students return to campus for Hybrid learning models at half capacity, the students are highly encouraged to eat in their cafeterias where Breakfast and Lunch are provided Free of charge. For the students who will be on opposite schedules and doing distance learning only for the first week 10/26-10/30 those students are encouraged to pick up a Free breakfast and Hot lunch from their High school or a close by school.

    • ***Each Friday during the Hybrid model of learning, students on campus will be given bags to bring home meals for their 5 days of distance learning. The bags will include 5 full breakfast meals and 5 full lunch meals with heating instructions, similar to what was done during COVID feedings in March. The bags that students will bring home will be completely FREE of charge, students are highly encouraged to take bags home with them!!

    Special note: All of our kitchen managers and staff members follow ServSafe guidelines and local health code regulations to provide the safest, most nutritious meals possible to your students.

  • We have just received confirmation from the Gordon County Sheriff's office that the manhunt in Resaca is over and the suspect is in custody. Therefore, we will resume normal operations for all Gordon County schools and bus routes for tomorrow, September 10. We sincerely apologize for any confusion these messages may have caused, but we are grateful that our students and families are safe from the threat.

  • We apologize for the lateness of the hour; however, we have an important announcement concerning Tolbert Elementary School and related bus routes. Working with the Gordon County Sheriff's office, we have made the decision to close Tolbert Elementary School tomorrow, September 10 due to the ongoing manhunt in the Resaca area. We also will not run any Tolbert bus routes. This includes TES 1-9 for Tolbert students and those students who attend Gordon Central or Ashworth Middle. Ashworth Middle School and Gordon Central High School students may be dropped off at school, as these schools will run a normal schedule. Tolbert Elementary is the only school closing at this time.

    As always, Gordon County Schools is concerned for the safety and well-being of all of our students. We urge everyone to take necessary precautions and heed the warnings of local law enforcement officials as they continue to monitor this situation.

  • ipad deployment forms Gordon Central Parents and Guardians:

    All students in 9th through 12th grade will be provided with an iPad as an instructional tool and will have the opportunity to take the iPad home for the 2020-2021 school year.

    If your child has never taken an iPad home or is new to Gordon Central, you must complete the form attached below. Each student is responsible for the one-time $25 iPad insurance fee if they wish to take the iPad home. If assistance is needed for hardship or in the case of multiple students, please fill out an iPad insurance fee scholarship application provided below.

  • School Vaccines

    The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) continues to work diligently with health care providers, local public health departments and many other health partners in response to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. For this reason, DPH has decided to revise its rules and POSTPONE implementation of the high school meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) booster dose requirement from July 1, 2020, to July 1, 2021.
    Effective July 1, 2021, children 16 years of age and older, who are entering the 11th grade (including new entrants), must have received one booster dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4), unless their initial dose was administered on or after their 16th birthday.
    We strongly recommend that students and families reach out to their healthcare provider to discuss all recommended vaccinations, including the MCV4 vaccine.

    We strongly recommend that students and families communicate with their health care provider to analyse all recommended vaccines, including the MCV4. vaccine.
