Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to Red Bud Elementary School! I am Cheri Prince, the ESOL teacher, here at this school. I am so glad I will be teaching your child this year! I would like to share a few personal things about myself as well as my preparation and enthusiasm for teaching. I have taught in the state of Georgia for twenty-seven years. I have been teaching at Red Bud Elementary for twenty-one years. I taught at Tolbert Elementary school in Resaca, Georgia for six years before transferring to Red Bud Elementary School. I would like to tell you where I received my teaching credentials. I received my Bachelor of Science degree with Special Honors in Education in 1990 at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. I received my Master of Education degree in 1995 from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. I received my Education Specialist degree from Piedmont College in 2012.
I have continued to update my skills through regularly participation in staff development to remain highly qualified to teach your child. I have my ESOL endorsement. This allows me to teach English to children that speak another language as their native language (first language). ESOL is a state funded instruction program for grades K-12. The purpose of this program is to assist students that speak another language other than English as their native language (first language), to develop proficiency in the English language. This includes the student becoming proficient in the English language in listening, speaking, reading and writing at the child’s grade level.
I have also gone to school to be a Teacher Support Specialist. This means that I can mentor beginning teachers. I also have my Gifted Endorsement. This means that I can teach gifted and talented students. I have passed the Georgia Test of Computer Skills Competency Test. I have also participated in the following staff development activities: Dibels Training, Max Thompson Workshop, Curriculum Mapping Workshop, Graphic Organizers Workshop, Star Reading Workshop, Creative Writing Workshop, Previewing Workshop, Distributing Review Workshop, Collaborative Pairs Workshop and many others. Teaching your child is important to me, therefore, I attend workshops and seminars in order to keep up with the latest teaching techniques.
I would like to let you know a little bit about me. I was born in Easley, SC. I lived in Six Mile, SC until my family relocated to Trion, GA in 1984. I graduated from Trion High School in 1986. I moved to Gordon County in 1991, when I begin teaching in Gordon County.
I believe that together, we will have a wonderful year filled with learning. Thanks so much for allowing me to work with your child this year. If I can ever answer any question or concerns that you have, please let me know. Please fill free to contact me by email at www.gcbe.org. Thank you so much for your time.
