Band classes at Gordon Central High School are designed for the music student who has working knowledge of instrumental music, learned through their middle school experience, or music lessons outside of the school realm. Band Classes expect the music student to participate daily in classroom rehearsals, and to find time outside the class to practice and explore music as an individual. The first term of the school year is devoted to music that serves the performances of that semester. Music will include all music used for football season, the Veteran's Day Program, and the Christmas Concert. First semester also includes a class designed for the Blue Wave Band Colorguard. Colorguard members refine their performance routines, as well as develop new skill sets, growing as part of the visual arts of marching bands. Second semester band classes will focus on music used for Large Group Performance Evaluation, Spring Concert, Solo and Ensemble performances.
All music students are expected to grow in musical knowledge and skill set from playing, practicing, and performing in class, at home, and in public performances. Each student operates on their own skill level. Through guidance and repetition of quality musical activities, the band musician will develop their skill over a period of time. Each day in band class builds on the accomplishments of the previous day.
