Mrs. Kate Johnson

Mrs Johnson is the Ashworth Middle School art teacher and yearbook advisor. She has several years of experience working with children both in and out of the classroom. She has worked with the Athens YMCA, Camp Bil-O-Wood (a summer camp in Blind River Ontario), and many public schools in and around Athens both mentoring and teaching.

Mrs Johnson is a Calhoun native. She graduated from Calhoun High School in 2004 and pursued a degree in Fine Art Photography at the University of Georgia. She studied abroad in Cortona, Italy and had the unique opportunity to study in several cities and towns in Cuba. She graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts and went on to work as a Para at Chase Street Elementary School in Athens GA.  During her two years working with Pre-K students at Chase Street she realized her passion for teaching. In 2010 she joined the Maters in Art Education program at UGA and graduated in 2012.  Soon after she accepted a job as an art teacher at Union Point STEAM Academy in Greene County, GA.  There she collaborated with teachers to help create an arts infused curriculum for children in grade K-8.

Today Mrs Johnson lives in Calhoun with her husband (Tim), two daughters (Maggie and Susanna), and two dogs (Pete and Shemp).  She enjoys trying out new art projects with her daughters and hiking, fishing, and camping on the weekends. She is excited about working with students in the art room and introducing them to clay, paint, and even photography.
