Ms. Alicia Leonard

Hello. My name is Alicia Leonard. I teach both sixth grade regular education mathematics and 6th grade gifted/accelerated mathematics at Ashworth Middle School. This will be my fifth year at Ashworth, and my 8th year teaching. Ashworth is a great school with awesome faculty and staff, as well as, students. I have taught 6th grade math and earth science, 7th grade math and life science, and 8th grade physical science and tutored 8th grade math students. I have an Associates of Applied Science in Drafting and Design from Dalton State College, a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education from Dalton State College, and a Masters of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education from Piedmont College. In addition to my Gifted endorsement, I also hold an English for Speakers of Other Languages endorsement in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades and an Integrating Technology endorsement.

I volunteered a year with AmeriCorps VISTA before starting my teaching career. I coordinated and implemented a variety of service-learning projects. One of my favorites was cleaning up trash along the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee for Alternative Spring Break. I organized volunteers to help build one of the hiking trails behind Dalton State College and coordinated a variety of service-learning projects for Make a Difference Day, Hands on Georgia Week, and Alternative Spring Break. I also spent a week in the Dominican Republic building a bottle school and kitchen and learning about environmental sustainability. Another interesting life experience was working for Leonard & Associates as an appraiser’s assistant. I preformed on-site inspections of residential and commercial properties, drew the sketches, read semantics in zoning maps, flood maps, plot plans, and district maps in Whitfield County, Murray County, and Walker County. All this data and research was used to compile residential and commercial appraisal reports for banks and county governments. I had three different careers before the age of thirty, and mathematics was involved in every single career!

I enjoy teaching, learning, and traveling. I enjoy math, science, social studies, and language arts and reading. I am looking forward to working with your child this school year and getting to know them.
