Welcome to our class!
I’d love to tell you a little about myself! This is going to be another fun, loving, learning experience for everyone in our classroom, and I cannot wait to learn about your children. I am beginning my 15th year as a special education teacher. I began teaching in Cherokee County at Little River Elementary where I taught for 12 years. I then taught for 1 year in Carroll County and am now beginning my second year at Ashworth Middle School.
I graduated from The University of West Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. I have since gone back to school and received my Masters in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont College and my Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. I have hopes of one day returning to school to complete my Educational Doctorate degree.
I have 3 beautiful children; AJ is four and attends PreK at Belwood Elementary. Hudson is 9 and in fourth grade at Belwood Elementary, and Mackenna is 11 and is in 6th grade here at Ashworth. I am married to another educator, Cory Nix. He is currently in his second year serving as the Head Football Coach at Gordon Central High school.
As I have learned a lot from my education, I feel strongly that I learn more from my students. I believe they teach me while I teach them. I strive to create a loving environment for my classroom. I want the students to come to school each day and know that they are loved. I then focus my instruction on the individual needs of each student. I do have high expectations for my students and hold them to those expectations. I am looking forward to seeing how much my returning students have grown. It is going to be a great year!
