Mrs. Kristen Harris McGuire
Welcome! My name is Señora/Coach McGuire, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to teach and impact your child. I believe that positive relationships are key to success in the classroom. I am in my 16th year teaching Spanish. Besides being passionate about working with and encouraging teens, I am also very passionate about teaching, Spanish, and the Phoenix Nation. Knowledge of Spanish and foreign languages is a wonderful tool for students to increase their chances of obtaining a job, possibly obtain higher positions within a company, and also obtain a higher salary. Spanish is also a wonderful tool to open up even more doors to travel the world. Spanish has opened many doors for myself and my husband, who is also bilingual. In addition, I love my Phoenix Nation and believe we are the absolute best! I have been a PHOENIX, since we opened in 2005 and have loved every minute! GO PHOENIX!
Family: I am married to Jason McGuire, who is a 15 year veteran coach and teacher. He currently serves at Adairsville Middle School as a history teacher, football coach, and soccer coach. We have two children: Sadie and Asher. Asher is our newest addition and was born in July 2019. We also have two fur babies: Mia and Denali.
Professional Background:
*I became a Phoenix in 2005.
*I sponsored the Pep Club for several years and also the Foreign Language Club.
*I coached Varsity Women's Soccer for 9 years, as well as assisted at SMS and RBMS for several years afterwards. I am super excited to return to the field this year to Coach SHS Women's Soccer full time again.
*I started the SHS Spanish Honors Society in 2008, which I now co-sponsor with Jackie Palazzolo, and it is one of the largest honors societies at SHS.
*I have been the Instructional Leader for the World Language Department for 9 years and greatly enjoy and take a huge amount of pride in my role of teaching all my classes, including AP Spanish (Spanish 5), which I hope your child aspires to take to earn college credit.
*I am in my 5th year as our FCA sponsor and am blessed to work with amazing student leaders (who run the club) and local/international FCA staff.
*My husband and I have taken two student groups abroad to Spain/Morocco and also an FCA group to Brazil where we did sports ministry in 2018. In 2014, before our tour to Spain, I was blessed to be able to participate in an Education First workshop in Rome, Italy.
Degrees/Certifications: During high school, I participated in the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program and graduated with an IB diploma as Salutatorian of my high school. I completed my undergraduate degrees in Business/Spanish at Shorter University, where I graduated with honors and was part of several honors societies. I studied abroad in England, Scotland, and Italy, during my time at Shorter. I also participated in a BSU sports mission to Uruguay. I have my master's degree in Spanish Education from the University of West Georgia. I am TAPP certified. I am also Gifted/AP endorsed and had the awesome opportunity to participate in the "Capturing Kid's Heart's Workshop" in 2018.
Interests: My passions are teaching, spending time with my family, participating in outdoor activities (hiking, running, swimming, gardening, etc.), traveling, watching/coaching my daughter's sports, watching soccer, coaching soccer, going to church/FCA, doing mission work, and listening to music.
