Mrs. Bennett

I would like to welcome you and your child to W.L. Swain Elementary School and to 5th grade! I am very excited about the fact that your child’s last journey in elementary school will be here at W.L. Swain Elementary, “where learning shapes extraordinary students.” This year your child will grow educationally and socially, and will be fully prepared to enter the next stage in his or her academic career, middle school.

I am a graduate of Gordon County Schools.  I attended W.L. Swain, Ashworth, and then Gordon Central before leaving Calhoun for college in 1999.  I attended college, worked, and lived in Cobb and Cherokee Counties before returning to Calhoun in 2009.  After marrying my husband, Lane Bennett, I returned to Calhoun.  Then in 2011, we welcomed our daughter, Laney Kate, into our family, and at that point I knew it was time to come “home” to teach.

I earned my BA in Education from Kennesaw State University in 2003, I have a T-4 certificate, and am professionally qualified to teach your child. This is my fifth-year teaching fifth grade, but my fifteenth year teaching. Prior to teaching at W.L. Swain, I taught for 8 years at Mt. Bethel Elementary in Cobb County. I have spent my years as a teacher learning new ideas and strategies to use in the classroom, and look forward to implementing many of those this year. It has been said that I am “firm but loving” and I find this to be a great quality in a teacher, and I hope that you will too. I love teaching and working with students. There is no other profession I would rather be a part of than education.

I know my teaching must begin by making your child feel at home in our room. It is imperative that I begin creating a positive and safe learning environment that fosters success for all students by focusing on your child’s individual learning needs. Therefore, this must begin on the first day of school. I have high expectations for all students. Each student will be challenged at his or her individual learning level to progress and excel. I truly believe that all students can and will succeed with the right guidance and encouragement.
