Dear Parents or Guardians,
I would like to welcome you and your child to W.L. Swain Elementary School and to 5th grade! I am very excited about working with you and your child this year so that he/she will have a successful final year in elementary school! This will be a different kind of school year, but we will work hard to make sure everything goes smoothly.
I attended Dalton State University for the first two years of college. At that time, I moved to Columbus,
GA and earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Columbus State University in
- I have a T-4 certificate, and I am professionally qualified to teach your child. I have been in education for 26 years. I began as a paraprofessional and then became a certified teacher. This will be my 19th year in the classroom. I taught 3rd grade for 15 years. This is my 4th year teaching fifth grade. Prior to teaching at W.L. Swain, I taught for 16 years at Wesley Heights Elementary School in Columbus, GA.
I have high expectations for my students. They should all be able to succeed with parents, students, and teachers all working together for a common goal. That goal is to send each student to middle school with academic knowledge, behavior, and social skills to continue that success. It has been said that I am “firm but fair and loving.” I find this to be a great quality in a teacher, and I hope that you will too.
I will be using Class DOJO to provide you with class information, reminders, and other important information along with sharing your child’s behavior. Please follow these communications closely as they will help keep you informed about what we are doing at school, but also how your child is doing in school. I also encourage you to sign up for the Infinite Campus Parent Portal—see office personnel. Campus Parent Portal is a very important tool because you can see grades at any time. Using this tool will ensure there are no surprises when you receive a mid-term or a report card. I look forward to being involved in your child’s final elementary school experience, 5th grade!
Communication between parents and teachers is vital to a successful year for your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. If you need to contact me during the school day, you may call the office and leave a message. It will be after 2:30 before I am able to return phone calls. The best way to contact me will be through Class DOJO. I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.
