Del Valle's Schedule 2018-2019

Dear Parents or Guardians,

I would like to welcome you and your child to W.L. Swain Elementary School and to 5th grade! I am very excited about working with you and your child this year so that he/she will have a successful final year in elementary school! I am also new to the school this year, and I am excited about being a part of this school!

I attended Dalton State University for the first two years of college. At that time, I moved to Columbus, GA and earned my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education degree from Columbus State University in 2002. I have a T-4 certificate, and I am highly qualified to teach your child. I have been in education for 25 years. I began as a paraprofessional and then became a certified teacher. This will be my 17th year in the classroom. I taught 3rd grade for 15 years. This is my 2nd year teaching fifth grade. Prior to teaching at W.L. Swain, I taught for 16 years at Wesley Heights Elementary School in Columbus, GA.  I look forward to using my previous knowledge of teaching strategies along with new strategies I will learn here at W.L. Swain Elementary. I love teaching and working with students.

I have high expectations for my students. They should all be able to succeed with parents, students, and teachers all working together for a common goal. That goal is to send each student to middle school with academic knowledge, behavior, and social skills to continue that success. It has been said that I am “firm but fair and loving.” I find this to be a great quality in a teacher, and I hope that you will too.

I will be using Class DOJO to provide you with weekly newsletters, class information, reminders, and other important information along with sharing your child’s behavior.  Please follow these communications closely as they will help keep you informed about what we are doing at school, but also how your child is doing in school.  I also encourage you to sign up for the Infinite Campus Parent Portal—see office personal. Campus Parent Portal is a very important tool because you can see grades at any time. Using this tool will ensure there are no surprises when you receive a mid-term or a report card.  I look forward to being involved in your child’s final elementary school experience, 5th grade!

Communication between parents and teachers is vital to a successful year for your child.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  If you need to contact me during the school day, you may call the office and leave a message.  It will be after 2:30 before I am able to return phone calls.  You also able to contact me through Class DOJO.  I also encourage you to communicate through notes in your child’s communication folder or through email.  My email address is tdelvalle@gcbe.org.  I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.

Sincerely,

Teresa Del Valle
