Hello Fairmount Families!

My name is Amie Sorrow, and I am the 4th Grade Reading and Writing teacher here at Fairmount Elementary.  This is my fourth year at Fairmount and my sixth year of teaching.  I recevied my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Kennesaw State University, and my master's degree in Reading Instruction from the University of West Georgia.  I am a Georgia Certified Reading Specialist, and I also hold a Reading Endorsement.  In 2021,  I plan to immediately reenroll in college to begin my pursuit of my Doctorate in Language and Literacy.  I hope to participate in a research study involving struggling readers and complete my dissertation in this area as well.  Teaching reading is my passion!

I love literature and the ways in which stories can affect the heart and mind, maniuplating our emotions through displays of the human condition.  I am inspired by the skill and craft of an expert wordsmith who weaves a captivating tale simply by using the right language at the right time. I am an avid reader, spending much of my free time reading fiction, true crime novels, and educational research studies.  My goal is to inspire your student to love reading and writing literature as well.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, and together we have four children: Bailey, Logan, Sera, and Noah.  In my free time, I also enjoy spending time with family, trips to the lake, and reading!

I am so excited about this school year, and I have many fun learning activities planned.  The 4th Grade curriulum is tough and fast-paced, but I am confident that your student will be successful with hard work and dedication.  I value your partnership in your student's education, and I look forawrd to working together.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.  Best wishes for a FUN and SUCCESSFUL school year!

All the Best!
