Mr. Neal Crawford
I am a veteran teacher starting my 33 year of public education. My teaching career started back in 1986 at Red Bud High School. Over the years I've taught music in Georgia and Alabama, returning home to Gordon County in 1999. I am a proud graduate of Jacksonville State University, earning both my Bachelors and Masters in Music Education. I have a love of music that started early in my life, listening to my parents albums, laying down the foundation for loving and appreciating music of many styles. I am a student of the saxophone, and have enjoyed playing with community jazz and concert bands over the years. I've been blessed with a musical family. My wife Marianne Crawford plays piano and flute, my oldest son Bryan is a percussionist, and my youngest son Matthew plays trombone. When it comes to my philosophy on music education, I can sum it up in a quote from Dr. David L. Walters, my college band director. He asked us in one of our music education classes, "What do you plan to teach?" Our answer was music. Dr. Walters, in his humble nature reminded us that we teach kids. We use the best form of education possible. The field of music. I'm proud to be associated with Gordon Central High School, and have the best students in the world to teach.
