Reading Buddies is a program that is designed to provide one-on-one reading practice for first grade students with help of a 5th grade buddy. A first-grade student and their 5th grade reading buddy will read a book, practice sight words, and play a sight word game during each Reading Buddy session. First grade students will be selected by their teachers and permission slips will go home before students can enter the program. Fifth graders can volunteer to participate but must remain free of discipline referrals to continue in the program. Permission slips will go home for fifth graders as well. Students will meet twice a week from 7:10am-7:35am in Mrs. Tallant's classroom.
