  • How to get a library card
Your child is already using the RBMS Sora/Overdrive platform on their ipad to access
e-books at RBMS. But did you know that you can also link the Calhoun-Gordon County library through Sora as well?

    • If the parent already has a library card, the student can sign up for their own card online and it will be linked to the parent's account.
    • If the parent does not have a library card, it is easy to sign up for one online, and then the student can sign up for one at the same time.

By doing so, you may take advantage of their contactless curbside pickup and expand the
e-book content to which your child has access.

  • Attention all VAL and in-person learning students and families:

The Grace Period for Free and Reduced Lunch benefits will expire soon. If your children received Free or Reduced-Price lunches last year, there is a 30-day grace period when they remain in the same status as last year.  However, you must submit a new application for the 20-21 school year to continue their benefits past mid-September.

For families who have students who are currently participating in Virtual At-home Learning (VAL)- you will need to complete an application now to receive free or reduced lunch benefits at any time this school year.

You can apply online at or get a paper application at your child's school. Please contact Lisa McKinney at 706-879-5011 or if you have any questions.  If you have already submitted an application this school year, please disregard this notice.

  • Backpack with food
Gordon County Schools recognizes that providing financially for your family can at times be challenging. We would like to help provide assistance to families experiencing this challenge. The Backpack Buddy program is offered to help families stretch their food budgets by sending home child-friendly snacks in their backpack every Friday. Each child in the family attending school will bring home a small bag of food items. These items are generously provided by local churches and the churches only know the number of bags needed each week. If your family is interested in participating in this program, please complete this form. Some items sent home may contain peanut products. If you have questions regarding this program you may contact the school counselors David Weaver and Haylee Fowler at 706-879-5261 or or

  • When do I stay home

One of the most powerful ways parents/guardians can prepare students for success in both school and life is to MAKE REGULAR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE A PRIORITY.  To help determine when it is medically necessary to keep a child home, and at what point it is appropriate for him/her to return to school, please refer to the included image as guidance.  Thank you for doing your part in reducing the risk of infection to others while also minimizing the amount of instructional time students miss unnecessarily.  Every day counts!
