  • Students Learn About Waves Using Slinkies

    Students in Mr. Langston’s Physical Science class enjoyed learning about how waves travel through matter by using slinkies to demonstrate transverse and longitudinal waves.

  • Students Use Comprehension Strategies to Tackle Text Passages

    Students in Ms. Burnham's Warrior Time have worked hard all week using comprehension strategies to tackle rigorous text passages. They ended the week with a comprehension puzzle, solving by matching vocabulary to correct definitions using context clues.

  • JROTC Mentors Ashworth 8th Graders

    Members of the Gordon Central High School JROTC group have been using their Fridays to mentor Ashworth Middle School 8th graders. The mentoring sessions are setting Ashworth students up for success in education, their future careers, and their daily life. Students are also gaining skills in learning to manage their own learning in order that they may maximize their potential, improve performance, and become the people they want to be. Thank you to our JROTC Warriors for leading the way!

  • Krystal Marshall Wins District Young Georgia Author Competition

    Congratulations to Krystal Marshall for winning the Young Georgia Authors Competition at the district level for 8th grade! We are so proud of her accomplishment and how well she represented Ashworth Middle School!

  • AMS Students Go Cross-Curricular with Math & Social Studies

    Last week in Ms. Massengale's 6th grade social studies classes, students got to look at different foods from McDonald's restaurants around the world. They had to examine the prices and convert the currency into US dollars to see how much it cost. Students could not believe that they were getting to use math in social studies!

  • Students Research and Write Argumentative Essays

    Students in Ms. Burnham's ELA classes are practicing their argumentative writing skills. This week, students researched the positive and negative impacts of violent role-playing games on teens. While in the media center, Mrs. Hunt (LMS) provided access to multiple resources and coached students on how to use them effectively. Mr. Larson (AP) dropped by to assist Ms. Burnham in conferencing with students on their essay drafts. We are so proud of our Writing Warriors!

  • Students Build Pyramids in Study of Egypt

    Mrs. Wallin’s Warrior time students spent the last month learning about Egypt. One area of emphasis was the study of pyramids. To conclude their study students were given the challenge to build a pyramid using toothpicks and marshmallows. The students thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on opportunity to be creative while demonstrating what they had learned.

  • Laura Wolfe Named District Teacher of the Year

    Laura Wolfe, 6th grade science teacher at Ashworth Middle School was awarded the honor during a surprise gathering of her 6th grade students and colleagues. On hand for the naming were Mrs. Wolfe husband, Jeremy and their two sons, Nathaniel and Parker, as well as Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Fraker, Board of Education Chairperson Mr. Charlie Walraven, and other school and district leaders.

  • AMS Students Take Cumulative "Snowman" Assessment

    Mrs. Gaither’s Math Class completed a cumulative assessment of the second nine weeks. They answered a total of 10 questions (that each student drew from a bag) which resulted in many different sets of answers. They then used a key provided to determine the attributes their snowmen must possess. Once all of the work was completed, they each got to design their snow man from scratch using a variety of materials. What a fun way to take a test!!!

  • AMS Inducts Students into REACH Scholars Program

    Ashworth inducted four eighth grade students into the REACH Georgia mentorship and scholarship program: Alicia Dela Cruz, Tayib Evans, Jayden Jones and Kaitlyn Smith. The students were joined by family members for the ceremony.

  • Anngeleanna Milian Wins Presidential Debate

    Anngeleanna Milian has won the first Presidential debate for Mrs. Wong’s Warrior Time group. Anngeleanna successfully argued that President Ronald Reagan was the most influential president in the bracket. She faced President Wilson in the final debate and both students did exceptionally well. Our next debate club will begin after the Thanksgiving break.

  • AMS Students Create Middle East News Broadcasts

    Students in Mrs. Wallin’s 7th grade Social Studies classes have been finishing their unit of study on the history of the Middle East by creating news broadcasts. Their focus was on U.S. presence and interest in Southwest Asia, including the Persian Gulf conflict and invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
