In a called meeting on May 23, the Gordon County Board of Education introduced Dr. Kimberly M. Fraker, Ed.D to the community as the sole finalist for superintendent of schools. Dr. Fraker has had a stellar career of over 24 years in education. She has held positions in the classroom, as an administrator, and in the central office. Dr. Fraker has most-recently served Bartow County Schools as chief of leadership and learning. Among her many responsibilities in this role, Dr. Fraker assists the superintendent in the day to day operations of the schools. Throughout her career, Dr. Fraker has emphasized student achievement. BOE Chairperson, Charlie Walraven, stated, “We are very fortunate to have someone with Dr. Fraker’s credentials and experience to lead our system.”

Dr. Fraker received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. She attained her secondary English education certification from Kenensaw State University and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of West Georgia. She is married to Captain Jim Fraker of the Sandy Springs Police Department. They have three children- daughters Kayley and Erin and son Forrest and his wife Korey. Dr. Fraker is active in many organizations and hopes to do the same upon relocation to Gordon County.

The Board of Education also expressed gratitude to the community for its input and prayers throughout the selection process. In a prepared statement, the BOE articulated that it, “was fortunate to have many qualified candidates from which to choose, particularly one with Dr. Fraker’s experience and expertise. We look forward to the next chapter in the history of Gordon County Schools.”

The nomination of Dr. Fraker by the Gordon County BOE as sole finalist remained open for 14 days in accordance with state law. At the conclusion of the nomination period, Dr. Fraker was unanimously approved for the position. The contract period for Dr. Fraker will begin July 1, 2019.
