During its regular monthly meeting this week, the Gordon County Board of Education presented its Community Connections Award posthumously to JR Greeson. On behalf of the Board, Justin Timms, principal at Belwood Elementary School, presented the award to Mr. Greeson's family. He described Mr. Greeson's connection with Gordon County with stories from his personal experience with him, "Larry was an alumnus of Gordon County Schools. He stayed true to his roots and sought to serve the community and help others whenever possible. Like so many that we have lost this year, his passing is a tragic loss. Larry was a constant presence around our schools. He had a huge heart for others and was such a giving person. We could always count on him to help us mentor students, speak to classes, or take pictures. He was a good man and he made a difference in his community. He was loved by all and while his passing leaves a great void, the way in which he lived his life can be an inspiration for us all." Mr. Greeson was often seen at sporting events, plays, and special school and community events with his camera in hand ready to capture the perfect memory for many Gordon County Schools families, whether they were wearing Warrior blue or Phoenix red.
A gift of recognition, sponsored by North Georgia National Bank, was presented to Mr. Greeson's family members who were present at the Board of Education meeting.
