GORDON COUNTY SCHOOL EARNS GHSA COOPERATIVE SPIRIT SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
GORDON COUNTY, GA- Gordon Central High School received the 2020-21 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award, announced recently by GHSA and Georgia’s Electric Memberships Cooperatives (Georgia EMCs).
GHSA officials stated the award honors schools that demonstrated impeccable sportsmanship during the 2020-21 academic school year. Gordon Central earned the award for Region 7-2A.
“This sportsmanship award reflects the hard work, dedication, and most of all, respect that our school community exhibits in everything we do,” said Brian Hall, Principal of Gordon Central High School. “Gordon Central High School coaches are here to grow our student athletes into adults with values, and those values extend both on and off the field or court. I am so proud of our athletic programs for this, as a cooperative spirit encompasses what it means to be successful—and what it means to be a Warrior.”
A release from GHSA states that the award is both a school and community honor and serves to reinforce the GHSA philosophy: “Students, athletes, coaches, spectators and all others associated with high school activities programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty and responsibility.”
“Congratulations to all of the region winners of the GHSA Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award for 2020-2021,” says Dr. Robin Hines, GHSA Executive Director. “It is an honor for these member schools to be selected by their regions for this award. The characteristics of good sportsmanship are critical to the development of our young people as they transition into productive adults. The GHSA applauds our schools on this accomplishment and appreciates Georgia’s EMCs for their support of this outstanding recognition program.”
The Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award has been sponsored by GHSA and Georgia EMC’s since 2006.
