BARNETTE AND MASSEY HONORED FOR SERVICE TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

At their last official meeting as members of the Gordon County Board of Education, Mrs. Nan Barnette and Mr. Larry Massey, Jr. were honored for their service to the Gordon County School district.  Mrs. Barnette served as an elected member of the Board of Education for 12 years, following her retirement from a long tenure as an educator with the school district.  Mr. Massey was appointed by the Board of Education to fill a vacant seat 15 months ago.  Chris Johnson, chairman of the Board of Education, delivered his heartfelt gratitude for each of them being willing to serve the children of Gordon County.  “Mrs. Nan, you have a mentor to me since I came on the Board, and I am grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to work with you.  Your education background meant a lot, and I looked to your experience for guidance on many occasions.”  He went on to address Mr. Massey, “Thank you for your service, and good luck on your bid for State Representative.  I am glad we had the opportunity to get to know each other.  I consider you a friend.”  Mrs. Nan and Mr. Massey both expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve.  Mrs. Barnette stated, “This is my calling, and I have been honored to serve.”  Mr. Massey took the time to thank Mrs. Barnette for her service and stated that his, “appreciation for the school system has grown over the past year, and I thank the Board for the opportunity to serve.”
