Catrina Hartel, paraprofessional at Sonoraville High School, was named the January 2019 #GCS2ndMile Award winner. Receiving several nominations from co-workers, Ms. Hartel was recognized for her dedication to both students and the school as a whole. Erin Richardson, SHS teacher, encompassed the nominations as a whole, "Catrina is a rockstar. I don't even have the words to express how valuable she is. She not only takes care of all her ESS kids, she is constantly taking care of any other kid in the classroom who needs assistance. She is constantly coming up with new ways to convey information and is so creative. She also helps out the SHS drama program on her own time and is a fantastic mentor to those kids. She is a "behind-the-scenes" kind of person who does not ask for any recognition for everything she does, but she so deserves it."
Surprised with flowers and an invitation to join the Board of Education as they honor her at their regular monthly meeting, Ms. Hartell was greeted with applause from her own students, as well as Mr. Psailia's math class who heard the announcement in a neighboring classroom. Pictured here are Ms. Hartel with both Mr. Psaila's class, Ms. Hartel's students, Dr. Susan Remillard and members of the SHS administrative team.
