Sonoraville Elementary students enjoyed an exciting day of hands-on learning this morning during the school’s Transportation Inspiration Career Day. The on-campus event gave students the opportunity to explore a variety of career pathways while meeting professionals who serve, build, protect, transport, and support the local community.

Throughout the day, students were able to climb inside vehicles and equipment, ask questions, and listen as community partners shared information about their careers. From emergency response and public safety to construction, utilities, healthcare, natural resources, and skilled trades, students experienced firsthand how transportation plays an important role in many different professions.

The event brought together an impressive group of community partners, including the Gordon County Fire Department, Mohawk Industries, Gordon County Sheriff’s Department, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Red Bird Plumbing, AdventHealth, North Georgia Electric, Sherman Hall Construction, Gordon County Public Works, K & B Siteworks, a local farrier, the National Guard Armory, and more.

Students had a great time learning from the professionals, exploring the vehicles and tools used in their work, and discovering how classroom learning connects to future careers. The interactive format helped students better understand the many opportunities available to them as they begin thinking about their interests, talents, and future goals.

Sonoraville Elementary is grateful to each community partner who took the time to visit campus and invest in students. Their willingness to share their knowledge, experiences, and equipment helped create a memorable learning experience that inspired curiosity and excitement about future career pathways!

Today, we celebrate our incredible support teachers and staff at SES! From ESS to Gifted to SLPs to our Special Area teachers, these amazing educators play such an important role in the success of our students and school.

They support learning in countless ways, build meaningful relationships with students, and help make SES such a special place to learn and grow. While they may sometimes be overlooked, they are NEVER forgotten, and we are so thankful for everything they do each day.

We also have to give a shoutout to our second-grade team, who were apparently too busy teaching and working hard to stop for a group picture! Even though they were MIA for the photo, we still love and appreciate them tremendously.

Thank you to all of our support staff and teachers for the heart, dedication, and positivity you bring to SES every single day!

Today, we celebrate School Nurse Day and our amazing school nurse, Leah Petty!

From scraped knees and upset stomachs to comforting worried students and supporting staff, Nurse Leah does it all with kindness, patience, and compassion. She works tirelessly to keep our students safe, healthy, and ready to learn each day.

We are so thankful for the care, calm presence, and dedication she brings to SES. Thank you, Leah, for everything you do for our students, staff, and families. We appreciate you more than words can say!

We’re also pretty sure she has handed out approximately 47 million ice packs this year alone and somehow still has a smile on her face every time someone says, “I think I need an ice pack.”

Today, we celebrate our Kindergarten and Third Grade teams!

Our kindergarten teachers and paraprofessionals work tirelessly with our littles as they learn new math, reading, and writing skills while navigating all those big personalities in little bodies. We are so appreciative of the patience, kindness, and love they show our students each and every day.

Our third-grade teachers guide students through so many academic firsts. This is the first year students switch classes and take the Georgia Milestones at the end of the year. These amazing educators prepare our students flawlessly for all they will encounter throughout the year and beyond.

Way to go, Kindergarten and Third Grade teams! We appreciate all you do for our students and school community.

On Friday, we honored our incredible lunchroom staff for everything they do each and every day. From keeping us well fed to bringing smiles and laughter to the cafeteria, their hard work does not go unnoticed. We are so grateful for all they do for our students and staff! ❤️
We also want to give a big shoutout to our amazing principal, Kelly Rampy! She works tirelessly to make SES one of the best places to learn and grow in Gordon County. One of the many ways she supports our staff is by partnering with our PTO, like this morning’s delicious breakfast treat from Calhoun Coffee Company. It was such a thoughtful and appreciated surprise! ☕🥐

The SHS Construction class recently visited Mrs. Stamey’s 5th grade science class at SES to teach students about electrical circuits. During the visit, they explained the different parts of a circuit, how to build one, and the function of each component. Students then participated in a hands-on activity where they created their own circuits and tested them. By completing a closed circuit, they were able to see electricity in action as their light bulbs lit up!

We are so proud of our students for sharing their knowledge, leading by example, and inspiring future learners!
