57 students recently represented Gordon County Schools in the Northwest Georgia Regional Technology Competition. They joined students from surrounding schools to share technology projects in many different categories. Gordon County sent students from eight schools, and all students were local technology competition winners in their project category and grade level.
This was the largest team that Gordon County has ever sent to the regional competition, and all students used their creative, collaborative, and critical thinking skills to develop unique and innovative projects that make our district proud.
Special thanks to the following Gordon County Schools staff who assisted with the local or regional technology competitions: Kalee Bennett, Jackie Brown, Rachel Carter, Brandi Evans, Taylor Fain, Adam Fite, Leigh-Ann Hunt, Chuck Langston, Danny Lowrance, Bryson McGuire, Chad Moore, Caroline Stephens, and Melissa Vincent.

Tolbert Elementary 3rd grade teacher Kelly Macks reviewed sentence types with students and celebrated together getting answers right. Great job! #TogetherWeLearn #TogetherGCS #GordonCountySchools

Currently, Gordon County Schools has sixteen Pre-K classrooms.
Children must be four years old on or before September 1. Children who are five years old by September 1, may attend Pre-K if they have not previously attended a Georgia Pre-K.

Tolbert Elementary School has joined students from across the country and around the world to compete in READBowl, the World Championship of Reading founded by Super Bowl Champion and children's book author Malcolm Mitchell. READBowl is a global reading competition for pre-k through 8th grade students designed to inspire students to read and provide teachers with a platform to motivate students to increase reading minutes.
READBowl began on January 13 and students will compete in four quarters (weeks) of reading action through February 7. Mitchell will announce the World Champions of Reading on Super Bowl Sunday, February 9.
Please join us in wishing our students good luck in READBowl. With our community behind us, there is no doubt that Tolbert Elementary School will read to succeed in READBowl.

Gordon County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday, January 22. This delay is implemented to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families at this time.
Please adjust your child's morning drop-off time by two hours. Buses will also operate on a two-hour delay behind their usual route times. Elementary schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Middle and high schools will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Note that buses may run slightly later than the normal schedule to allow for extra precautions to keep students warm and safe. Encourage children to dress warmly as they travel to school. Layering helps keep them safe and warm. Indoor recess activities will take place. We will also provide flexibility with arrival times for all students to ensure safe arrivals.
Weather forecasts indicate a slight chance of precipitation this evening. We are working closely with local agencies to continue monitoring the situation and will notify families promptly through our communication channels if anything changes.

Gordon County Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 21st, 2025.
Due to the latest weather forecast predicted by GEMA for potential precipitation in the northwest Georgia region, all schools in the district will be closed Tuesday. This precaution is to ensure the safety of our students, employees, and families for unpredictable weather.
We will continue to work with local agencies to monitor the weather forecast for the rest of the week. Families will be promptly notified through our communication channels.
Stay warm and safe tomorrow!

100th Day of School Celebration – January 23, 2025!
We’re celebrating 100 days of learning on January 23rd! Students can choose to dress in one of two fun ways:
100 Days Brighter: Wear neon or bright colors to celebrate how much we've grown.
100 Days Wiser: Dress as a wise, 100-year-old person to honor all the knowledge we've gained.
We can't wait to see everyone’s creative outfits and celebrate this milestone together!

Reminder: Monday, January 20, is a student and staff holiday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Due to road conditions from inclement weather, Gordon County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Monday, January 13. This delay is implemented to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families Monday morning.
Please adjust your child's morning drop-off time by two hours. Buses will also operate on a two-hour delay behind their usual route times. Elementary schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Middle and high schools will begin at 10:30 a.m.
