W.L. Swain Elementary 5th grade students in Mrs. Bennett’s class were using visualization to support vocabulary growth and reading comprehension.

Mrs. Bennett reinforced the anchor skill of visualization to help students better understand and remember new words from their story. Students created fun motions and actions to connect each word with its meaning, making vocabulary practice engaging and memorable!

We are looking forward to welcoming our WLS families to Math & Literacy Night on September 24th from 5:30–7:30 PM!

We’ll have hands-on learning, family fun, and PIZZA! To help us plan for enough food for everyone, we need to know how many cowboys and cowgirls will be joining us!

Fall Picture Day is Coming Up! Mark your calendars! Fall Picture Day is Wednesday, September 2nd! Families have the option to preregister online before Picture Day. Preregistering gives you: 📷 Up to 10% off 📷 Early access to view and purchase portraits online 📷 If you miss preregistration, you will still receive proofs with a new QR code Please note: Preregistration is completely optional and does NOT affect whether your child will have their picture taken. All students will be photographed. The preregistration QR code expires 2 days before Picture Day, so be sure to scan the code on the flyer if you would like to register. W.L. Swain Elementary 3rd grade students in Mrs. Jarrett’s class were building strong reading comprehension skills.

Students discussed text and graphic features and explored why authors use them in different works. By looking closely at headings, captions, pictures, charts, and other features, students learned how these tools can help readers better understand information and make connections to the text.

It was a great example of students thinking deeply about what they read and how authors help share meaning for readers.
