A woman speaks to a class of students in front of a cow

GORDON COUNTY, GA - Recently, Fairmount Elementary welcomed a special guest, Maggie the Cow, to the delight of students and educators alike. The presence of this Jersey cow brought the dairy industry to life, offering valuable insights into the dairy farming heritage of Georgia.

Fairmount Elementary has taken a proactive approach to education this year by implementing Georgia Agriculture in their classroom standards. The students have eagerly embraced each lesson, and Maggie's visit was a recent highlight of their learning experience.

This memorable event would not have been possible without the invaluable support of the Gordon County Young Farmers and the dedicated efforts of Jamie Stodghill. Their commitment to enhancing the educational experience of local students is commendable.

Maggie's visit was made possible through the Mobile Dairy Classroom, a dynamic and engaging educational program operated by the Georgia Agriculture Commodity Commission for Milk. The Mobile Dairy Classroom, housed within a 30-foot mobile unit, boasts a fully operational milking parlor complete with a live cow used for milking and feeding demonstrations.

The primary objective of this educational initiative is to provide children and adults with a deeper understanding of various aspects of dairy production, including the source of milk, the processing methods, the nutritional benefits of dairy products, and the responsible management of natural resources by dairy farmers.

Fairmount Elementary remains committed to enriching the educational journey of its students and looks forward to further opportunities to engage with interactive and informative programs like the Mobile Dairy Classroom.
