Calhoun, GA – The Gordon County Schools Board of Education announced the 2022 STAR students and teachers from Gordon Central High School and Sonoraville High School at the February board meeting, held on February 14th.

Created by the Professional Association of Georgia Educations (PAGE), the Georgia STAR student and teacher program recognizes high school students who are in the top 10% of students in their class, based on grade point average, and earned the highest SAT score on a single test date.

Each student receiving the STAR honor is invited to select a STAR Teacher to recognize for being the most influential in their academic achievement, while in high school.

Three Gordon County Schools students have been named as recipients of the STAR Student honor. For the first time in school history, Sonoraville High School had two students tie for the achievement. The Gordon County Schools honorees are:

  • Gordon Central High School:
    • STAR Student: Lindsey Lowrance
    • STAR Teacher: Melanie Moore
  • Sonoraville High School:
    • STAR Student: Abigail King
    • STAR Teacher: Hannah Nelson
  • Sonoraville High School:
    • STAR Student: Luke White
    • STAR Teacher: Nathan Schuster

High school STAR Students compete for the Gordon County Schools system title, the winner of the overall GCS title will then compete for region-wide honors in the 12 STAR Regions. Region winners then move on to compete for state PAGE STAR scholarships and awards.
