Fairmount Elementary 1st and 2nd grade students in Kelly DeFrench’s REACH class combined math and creativity as they worked with polygons.
Students used different shapes to create imaginative artwork while building their understanding of polygon attributes and how shapes can be combined in new ways. Activities like this give students the opportunity to apply academic skills through creativity and hands-on learning.

Ms. Gunter is student teaching at FES this year while attending Shorter University, where she is majoring in Elementary and Special Education. She is also supporting students through Fairmount Elementary’s After School Program.

This recognition from the Georgia Department of Education is awarded to schools where at least 90% of participating students demonstrate the ability to write their names in cursive. Under the instruction of 3rd grade ELA/reading teachers Alyssa Byrd and Katy Waters, Fairmount Elementary students developed strong cursive writing skills last year and reached this impressive milestone.
