As we gear up for our return to school on Tuesday, please take a moment to review the new traffic flow patterns for morning arrival and afternoon departure during the 24-25 school year. Check out the attached graphics for detailed routes and instructions to ensure a safe and smooth process for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation!
🚍 Morning Arrival at Gordon Central High School 🚗
To ensure a smooth and safe arrival for everyone, please take note of the following procedures:
Buses will use the middle lanes for student drop-off.
Faculty members will be on duty to assist with stopping traffic at the crosswalk.
Car riders should use the lane closest to the building for drop-off. Please PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD to maximize lane usage, especially as traffic increases.
All students must enter through the main office area. Please note that the gym and ramp tower entrances will not be open in the morning.
🚌 Afternoon Dismissal at Gordon Central High School 🚗
Please review the following procedures for a safe and efficient afternoon dismissal:
Buses will be staged in the three main lanes in front of the school as shown in the graphic:
Tolbert buses will be closest to the building.
Swain buses will be in the middle lanes.
Belwood/Red Bud buses will be in the lane farthest away from the building.
Car rider traffic will enter the new gym parking lot area by turning in at the 4-way stop and line up as indicated in the graphic.
Cars will be stopped at the curb before moving into the traffic lanes in front of the school. Cars that arrive early should NOT park in front of the main entrance of the school. A faculty member will hold car rider traffic in front of the gym until bus traffic has cleared. NOTE THAT ALL CAR RIDER TRAFFIC WILL BE HELD UNTIL BUSES ARE LOADED AND HAVE LEFT THE CAMPUS.
Once bus traffic has cleared (approximately 3:30 pm), car rider traffic will then be released to exit via the lane closest to the school, following the green arrow pattern.
Please be aware that this pattern is subject to change as we assess traffic flow with the ongoing renovation. We appreciate your flexibility and awareness in the interest of safety.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you have had a restful summer and are looking forward to another school year. I am writing to inform you of an important change in our school system procedure regarding student cellphone and earbud use. Effective the 2024-2025 school year, Gordon County Schools will no longer allow students to use their cellphones and earbuds during school instructional time. This decision has been made with the well-being and academic success of our students as our top priority.
Recent studies have highlighted several detrimental effects of social media and excessive internet use on school-aged children. These include: Distraction from Learning: 1. The constant notifications and easy access to social media can significantly distract students from their studies, reducing their attention span and hindering their academic performance. 2. Mental Health Issues: Prolonged use of social media has been linked to increased levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness among young people. The comparison culture prevalent on these platforms can negatively impact their self-esteem and mental well-being. 3.Sleep Disruption: The blue light emitted from cellphone screens can interfere with sleep patterns, leading to sleep deprivation. This lack of sleep can affect students’ concentration, memory, and overall health. 4. Cyberbullying: Unfortunately, social media can also be a platform for bullying and harassment. By limiting cellphone use during school hours, we aim to create a safer and more supportive environment for all students. To support this new procedure, we ask that you encourage your children; follow their school's procedures for phone storage in the school building.
We understand that this may be an adjustment for both students and parents, but we firmly believe that this change will foster a more focused and positive educational environment. Additionally, please be aware that there will be disciplinary action taken for students who violate this cellphone and earbud use procedure, including taking up the cell phone or ear buds for the remainder of the school day, detention or suspension.We appreciate your support as we implement this new procedure.

We are looking forward to our rapidly-approaching opening of the 2024-2025 school year at Gordon Central High School. We will have more information on the first days of school in the days ahead; however, this message is to provide our families with information on how to obtain their parking passes and class schedules.
This year, Gordon Central High School will be issuing student parking permits and distributing class schedules by grade level and academic performance during the 23-24 school year. Students in each grade level will receive advanced access to these items if they were on honor roll, merit list, or had perfect attendance last school year. More information and the schedule for pick up may be found on our website at https://www.gcbe.org/o/gchs/page/parking. Please read this information carefully, as there are important pieces of information that must be available at time of purchase for parking permits.

Gordon County Schools is introducing My Ride K-12, a parent communication app, to its transportation operations. My Ride K-12 will be integrated with our transportation software for families to access estimated times of arrival or departure for buses.
My Ride K-12 is designed so you can access your student’s bus schedules efficiently. GPS technology on the bus works with the district’s software to automatically calculate the timing of a bus route to give you the most accurate ETAs with real-time updates and route changes.
My Ride K-12 is now available for you to download on your Apple or Android mobile device. Our flyer provides step-by-step registration instructions, and you can access the app to download in a variety of ways. Scan the QR code on the flyer, follow the hyperlinks below, or search your app store for “My Ride K-12” to download and register your family on the app. Student bus route information will be available August 2nd on My Ride K-12.

Gordon County Schools Summer Enrollment Information:
Please review the flyer to know where to go for summer enrollment at Gordon County Schools. Enrollment opens June 18th and ends July 11th. Visit the feeder school's registration location Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 11 am GRADUATION PRACTICE AT Dalton Trade Center
Graduating seniors should plan to be at the lower level of the DTC by 11 am in cap and gown.
If transportation for practice is needed, please be at the school by 10 am. The shuttle will leave promptly at 10:15.
THIS PRACTICE IS MANDATORY. The senior group picture will be made during practice. For this photo, seniors should wear their cap and gown, as well as the shirt/pants/shoes they plan to wear for the graduation ceremony. Seniors should bring a change of clothes to wear after the group picture, as practice could last until 2 pm.
Reminders for students who have received notice that they will be getting an award at honors day on Monday, May 20:
Our 10 am program at Trinity Baptist Church will honor students in grades 9-11. These students will be considered present at school by default for attendance purposes. Students are not required to ride the shuttle bus to the church on Monday morning and may choose to drive themselves or ride with their guardians (arrive 9-9:15 am for line-ups). However, students who are riding the bus will depart Gordon Central no later than 8:45 a.m., and students who ride the bus from GCHS must be signed out by parents/guardians if not riding the bus back to the school.
Students who are driving should park behind the church in the gravel lot or in the lower part of the main parking lot to allow parking spaces closer to the main entrance for families and guests.
Seniors will be honored that evening. The event begins at 7, and students should arrive at Trinity by 6 pm.
The 2024 Gordon County Schools Summer Feeding Program starts June 3rd through July 18th! This program serves our community by providing no-cost, healthy meals and snacks to children ages 0-18. Food will be offered Monday through Thursday each week, and Thursdays will include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday meals. Please note that all sites will be closed July 4th and 5th.
Food pickup locations are at Tolbert Elementary and Sonoraville High School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gordon County Schools will also have vans and buses delivering meals to our Mobile Locations marked with yard signs that read, "This is a Gordon County Summer Feeding Site." Listen for the honking horns as notification of arrival and please be patient as times will vary by each location. After the first week, we will announce more exact times for the Mobile Locations as our feeding staff workers learn and finalize their routes.
Check out the flyer for more information! The Gordon County Schools Nutrition Department, partnered with our Transportation Department, looks forward to serving families with nutritious meal options at no cost during the summer months.
Summer school registration is now open for Gordon County Schools high school students in need of credit recovery. Summer school dates are June 10-13, June 17-20, and June 24-27. There is no fee associated with summer school; breakfast and lunch are provided.
Students must attend each day and can earn ONE recovery credit from these offered courses: 9th Grade Literature, 10th Grade Literature, World History, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Physics, and Environmental Science.

What to Expect:
Senior Student Parade: Watch as our graduates proudly drive through our Ashworth and Gordon Central campuses. Bring your banners, balloons, family, and extended family to line Warrior Path and show your support for our soon-to-be graduates!
Parking: When you arrive, our friendly staff will direct you to park by the stadium. Please be in position by 6:25 pm to catch all the excitement.
Friday Night Lights: After the parade, we’re hosting Friday Night Lights exclusively for our seniors. We’ll check their names upon entry, ensuring that only Class of 2024 students join the festivities. Food, games, and fireworks await!
