State Superintendent Richard Woods Visits Red Bud Middle School to Present Math Leaders Banners
State School Superintendent Richard Woods visited Red Bud Middle School to present prestigious Math Leader banners to Ashworth Middle School, Red Bud Middle School, and Gordon Central High School. The recognition highlights these schools' commitment to excellence in mathematics and their outstanding achievements in student growth and proficiency.
Superintendent Woods was welcomed by Gordon County Schools Superintendent Alice Mashburn, along with Board of Education chairperson Charlie Walraven, co-chair Bobby Hall, and Marsha Wilson. Presented with the banners were Red Bud Middle School Principal Chad Moore, Ashworth Middle School Principal Danny Lowrance, and Gordon Central High School Principal Dr. Amy Parker. During his visit, Mr. Woods toured several classrooms at Red Bud Middle School and engaged with 8th-grade students, fielding their questions. RBMS 8th grade students Emma Osmanovic and Ethen Smith led the tour for Mr. Woods, providing insights into their classrooms and learning experiences in the classrooms of Tyler Lyles and Autumn Gibson, Cassie Bartley, and Sandra Cash.
The Math Leader Awards celebrate schools that have demonstrated exceptional student achievement and growth in mathematics under the new K-12 Mathematics Standards:
Ashworth Middle School – Recognized as a High School Outstanding Achievement Math Leader for its excellence in mathematics among 8th-grade students taking high school Algebra 1. The school’s high percentage of students performing at the Proficient Learner level or above showcases its commitment to academic success and numeracy skills.
Red Bud Middle School – Awarded dual honors as both an 8th Grade Gateway Growth and High School Outstanding Achievement Math Leader. This distinction reflects the school’s remarkable student growth in eighth-grade mathematics and high levels of achievement among 8th-grade students taking Algebra 1.
Gordon Central High School – Recognized as a Growth Leader for its significant improvement in mathematics achievement, as measured by the Algebra: Concepts and Connections End-of-Course (EOC) assessment. This award highlights the school's dedication to ensuring all students make measurable progress in their numeracy skills.
The Math Leader Awards for the 2023-2024 school year acknowledge schools that have increased the percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above. These awards emphasize the importance of numeracy in key transition years and require greater growth from schools with lower initial achievement levels. Mr. Woods discussed the prestige of this recognition and hoped to visit Gordon County Schools again next year with more achievements of academic success and growth.
The event served as a moment of pride for Gordon County Schools, celebrating the collective efforts of students, teachers, and administrators in advancing math education and ensuring academic success. Congratulations to Ashworth Middle School, Red Bud Middle School, and Gordon Central High School for their well-earned recognition as Math Leader schools.

RBMS recently welcomed 5th graders from our feeder schools as they toured the building and heard a little bit about what to expect in middle school next year! We look forward to an exciting year with new 6th graders!

Here's what's happening at The Bud this week.

RBMS Robotics just received a $5,000 TVA STEM Grant to help fund their current robotics classroom entitled RBMS Robotics Reboot!
RBMS Robotics Reboot will be used to renovate, organize, expand, and continue implementation of the RBMS Robotics classrooms and program while preparing students for amazing careers in STEM thanks to the grant from TVA and BVI!
According to TVA, the grant has allowed teachers to provide additional resources to help their students excel in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. This would not be possible without the support of TVA, BVI, and North Georgia EMC.

Here's what's happening at The Bud this week.

Matt is an exemplary teacher & coach! His teaching stretches across all learning abilities, and he is always learning and bringing the latest and best ideas to the table. He lets students know he cares and expects their best. He puts in so much work and effort day to day in ways that are not typically recognized! He is a person the students relate to, and he is a teammate that the teachers rely on. Matt is excellent at differentiating learning in the classroom and providing a safe and interactive learning environment. He involves himself outside the classroom by coaching volleyball. Mr. Waters is well respected by his students and his peers, and he will be an excellent representative for Red Bud Middle School as Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations to our teacher and staff member of the month--Mr. Joseph Forrest and Mr. Jimmy Holbert!

Welcome back from Winter Break!

The Red Bud Media Center recently sponsored a fun valentine guessing contest. Students, faculty, and staff were invited to “Guess How Many Sweet-Tart Hearts" were in the jar. Out of 380 student guesses, one 7th grade student guessed the exact number of hearts in the jar. That lucky student is Janiha Austin! She correctly guessed 578 pieces of candy! Congratulations to Janiah! Her correct guess won her the jar of candy and a few other treats. We had 34 teacher and staff guesses. There were several close ones but the teacher who was the closest to 578 was Mr. Jimmy Holbert. He guessed 567. Way to go Mr. Holbert! He won a smaller amount of Sweet-Tarts and a Chick-fil-A gift card.

On Thursday, 8th grade students from RBMS had the opportunity to tour Sonoraville High School and the College and Career Academy. Students were able to hear about all of the electives that are offered in high school and ask questions in preparation for class registration after Winter Break. A special thank you to the Sonoraville Recreation Department and Sonoraville Baptist Church for hosting the entire 8th grade for a pizza lunch! #GreaterThings #TogetherRBMS #TogetherGCS #rbms

Red Bud Middle School is proud to announce multiple new hires for the 2025-2026 school year.
We are blessed to bring three former RBMS and SHS students back home to begin or continue their teaching career. Please join me in welcoming Halley Adams (7th ELA), Bailey Brewer (7th ELA) and Morgan Bagley (6th math) back home to The Bud!
We are also blessed to add Sydney Shipley to our Phoenix Family. Mrs. Shipley is the reigning GCS Teacher of the Year, has two sons currently at SHS (Owen - 9th) and RBMS (Eli - 7th), and her husband Eric currently serves as the RBMS Athletic Booster Club president. Mrs. Shipley will be a wonderful addition as a 6th grade math teacher.
Finally, we are very excited to move Jackie Cascio into the Instructional Lead Teacher role for next school year. Mrs. Cascio has done amazing work as an 8th Grade Team Leader and science teacher, and we know she will have a significant impact on our teachers and our students in this new leadership and support role.
Please join me in welcoming and congratulating these fantastic educators! #GreaterThings #TogetherRBMS #TogetherGCS
