Sonoraville Elementary School invites all students to join in the festive fun during our Christmas-themed dress-up days over the next two weeks. Let’s spread some holiday cheer together! Here’s the lineup:
📅 December 9th: PJ Day – Get cozy and come to school in your favorite holiday pajamas!
📅 December 10th: Tacky Sweater Day – Wear your wackiest holiday sweater and bring the laughs!
📅 December 11th: Hallway Cheer – Dress by grade:
Yellow Hall (Pre-K & Kindergarten): White
Blue Hall (1st & 2nd Grade): Green
Green Hall (3rd, 4th, & 5th Grade): Red
📅 December 12th: Favorite Headgear Day – Show off your festive hats, antlers, or holiday headbands!
📅 December 13th: Reindeer & Gingerbread Day – Be inspired by holiday favorites and dress accordingly!
📅 December 16th: Sparkles & Snowflakes – Shine bright with lights, sparkles, and all things shiny!
📅 December 17th: Holiday Socks & House Shoes – Get comfy and festive with holiday socks and slippers!
📅 December 18th: Fa La La Flannel Day – It’s a flannel takeover! Wear your coziest plaid!
📅 December 19th: Grinch Day – Wear green or your favorite Grinch-inspired attire!
📅 December 20th: Christmas Shirt Day – Finish off the fun with your favorite Christmas shirt!

The Strategic Planning Survey is a key part of our process to develop a comprehensive roadmap for guiding Gordon County Schools from 2026 to 2030. This survey allows us to hear directly from community members, parents, staff, and students about their perspectives, priorities, and hopes for our school system. By gathering this feedback, we aim to understand the community’s vision for our schools and identify areas for growth and improvement.
The insights from the survey will directly influence the new strategic plan, which will set goals and outline initiatives that promote academic excellence, enhance student well-being, support staff development, and strengthen community partnerships. Ultimately, this survey empowers the community to play an active role in shaping the future of Gordon County Schools, ensuring that we continue providing the best possible educational experiences for all our students.

When: October 29th (TODAY) from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a walk-in meeting, so please feel free to come in at any time.

Sonoraville Elementary PE teacher Trey Hart and paraprofessional Becki Hall had 5th graders stretching in preparation for basketball drills before a change of plans--fire drill! The students at SES handled it perfectly. Students returned and worked hard at their stations!

Next week, we are celebrating Red Ribbon Week at SES. Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. We encourage our students to take a stand against drugs with lessons and special dress-up days. This year's theme is "Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free".
Monday, students may wear pajamas as they dream of a drug-free future.
Tuesday, students will shine like a star as they dress as their favorite movie star or character. Wednesday is community wear red day, and we walk the red carpet and stay drug-free. Thursday, students can 'boo' to drugs as they wear their Halloween costumes to school. Friday is an At-Home Learning Day, so students will not attend school on Friday.
Our third through fifth graders participated in the Drugs Don't Work poster contest sponsored by Gordon County's Drugs Don't Work Task Force, The Gordon County Chamber of Commerce, and Mannington. The winner for Sonoraville Elementary School was fifth grader Hadley Evans. Hadley was honored at a special reception at the Harris Arts Center.

🎉 Congratulations to Hadley Evans, a 5th grader at SES, for being named the Drugs Don't Work Poster Contest winner! 🎨✨ Hadley's creative poster, centered around Be Kind to Your Mind, Film Drug-Free, was selected by SES teachers and staff for its powerful message and artistic expression.
The contest, sponsored by the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce and Mannington, encourages students to promote healthy lifestyles and make positive choices. We are so proud of Hadley for her hard work and for representing our school well! 👏

Today, we had the honor of hosting Georgia Senator Chuck Payne (District 54) at Sonoraville Elementary during Georgia Pre-K Week! Senator Payne spent time with our youngest learners, sharing the importance of reading and getting an education.
Our Pre-K students loved hearing Senator Payne read two books: Malcolm Mitchell's "A Magnificent Field Trip to the Governor's Mansion" and the Sesame Street classic, "The Monster at the End of This Book." They were laughing at the funny voices and had a great time. We appreciate Bright from the Start Pre-K Specialist Jae Boyd for being a guest listener today.
When Senator Payne finished reading, he gave all the students a big hug and shared positive words about their futures when they work hard and strive to be good readers.
We are so grateful for Senator Payne’s dedication to fostering a love of reading in our students. His visit was a reminder of the lasting impact a good book and an inspiring role model can have on a child's education. Thank you, Senator Payne, for your support of our students and their futures!
