District leaders presented schools today with banners celebrating outstanding performance ratings on the Georgia 2025 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). Congratulations to Tolbert Elementary for their district-level achievements in Progress ELA and Progress Math!
#ExtraordinaryGCS #ExtraordinaryTES

CCRPI scores are calculated using multiple indicators that measure student achievement, progress, readiness, and closing gaps. A key component of the CCRPI is student performance and growth on state assessments, including the Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) tests. Additional factors include graduation rates, progress of English Learners, and indicators of college and career readiness.

Progress – ELA & Math: Tracks student growth over time on the Georgia Milestones in English Language Arts and Mathematics, regardless of their starting point. It shows how much academic progress students are making year to year.

Tolbert Elementary media specialist Katie Edwards spent time reading to 4th graders today during specials, continuing the outstanding work she does to inspire a love of reading across the school. Mrs. Edwards is dedicated to creating meaningful literacy experiences for students and fostering a vibrant reading community in the media center.

Earlier this year, she delivered a lightning talk for the University of West Georgia School Library Virtual Conference, a professional event for school library media specialists and administrators focused on innovation in literacy. Her presentation highlighted how Tolbert Elementary is using Wonderbooks to engage and motivate young readers. These interactive books were added to the library last year thanks to support from the Ratner Grant, and they have quickly become a favorite among students.

Tolbert Elementary 5th grade teacher Marie Taylor and co-teacher Jason Etheridge led an engaging lesson where students worked together to read and understand the experiences of the Oregon Trail. Students took on different roles within their groups, selected a leader, and navigated interactive tasks to determine their fate as they “moved out west.”

This hands-on activity helped students deepen their understanding of history, teamwork, and the challenges pioneers faced.

Tolbert Elementary 1st grade teacher Summer Barton worked with her students in small group activities focused on reading and grammar skills. Students practiced independent reading and learned how to identify the difference between declarative and interrogative sentences.

If you’d like to brush up on this skill too, declarative sentences make statements and end with a period, while interrogative sentences ask questions and end with a question mark. These young learners are building strong foundations in communication and sentence structure through engaging, hands-on lessons!

Gordon County Schools is proud to announce that Tolbert Elementary School and Red Bud Middle School have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education for outstanding academic achievement.

Tolbert Elementary was named a Literacy Leader for exceptional growth in 3rd Grade Gateway Reading, and Red Bud Middle was recognized as a Math Leader in High School Outstanding Achievement for the performance of its 8th-grade students on the 9th Grade Algebra End-of-Course Milestones exam.

The Literacy Leader and Math Leader honors celebrate schools that demonstrate extraordinary student progress and proficiency. Schools are recognized for achievement, growth, or both, based on annual end-of-grade and end-of-course assessments. These awards highlight the importance of strong literacy and numeracy skills as foundations for lifelong learning and success.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods commended these schools, saying, “Strong literacy and math skills open the door for every opportunity our students will encounter in school, in their future careers, and in life. The schools recognized as Literacy Leaders and Math Leaders have shown a deep commitment to ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.”

Congratulations to Tolbert Elementary and Red Bud Middle for their continued dedication to academic excellence and student growth.
