CALHOUN, GA - Gordon County Schools is delighted to announce a momentous victory at this year's National FFA Convention in Indiana. Makena Blalock, a standout student and the FFA Vice President at Sonoraville High School, proudly represented our school system as a national delegate and will return home with a remarkable national title!

Makena's achievement was unveiled on November 2nd at the 96th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis. She secured the prestigious national championship title for her outstanding agriscience project in Division 3 of the Social Systems category of the National Agriscience Fair.

The National FFA Agriscience Fair is a distinguished platform designed to acknowledge students who gain real-world, hands-on experiences in agricultural enterprises. Through this fair, students utilize scientific principles and emerging technologies to address intricate issues related to agriculture, food, and natural resources. The competition is open to both middle and high school students, who participate in one of six categories within the agriscience fair and under one of the six divisions, either individually or as part of a team.

The National FFA Organization, a school-based national youth leadership development organization, boasts more than 945,000 student members as part of 9,163 local FFA chapters across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The organization's commitment to nurturing leadership, personal growth, and career success in agricultural education is demonstrated through events like the National FFA Convention and the National Agriscience Fair.

Gordon County Schools extends its warmest congratulations to Makena Blalock for her exceptional performance and outstanding representation at the National FFA Convention. Her success reflects the values and commitment that we hold dear, and we look forward to witnessing her continued growth and achievements.
