Students in Ms. Massengale’s and Mr. Peacock’s eighth-grade social studies classes worked in stations last week to learn more about the reasons that the Georgia colony was created. They also used excerpts from the Charter of 1732 to confirm the presence of those reasons in the language of the original document. Students were able to learn the importance of studying primary as well as secondary sources when studying events of the past.

Ashworth Middle School 6th grade students in Mrs. Knight’s math class worked together to create posters showcasing data about themselves.
Students selected from a range of questions, including how many pets they have and how many hours of sleep they get each night, then collaborated in groups to organize their responses into multiple data charts. This activity helped students practice charting information, analyzing data, and learning more about their classmates.
It was a great example of teamwork, math in action, and meaningful classroom connections.

AMS Weekly Events: 9/7 - 9/13

Ashworth Middle School students are learning how strong writers bring their stories to life! Mrs. King’s 6th grade English Language Arts students worked together to explore how descriptive language, sensory details, and imagery can help readers experience a story rather than simply read it.

Coach Wood is helping Ashworth Middle School students build a deeper understanding of the world around them! In his 7th grade social studies classroom, students are creating anchor charts to better understand maps. Coach also created a fun drawing to show students how citizen power shapes different forms of government.

Congratulations to Mrs. Lauri Burke, our AMS Staff Member of the Month for August!
As our data clerk, Mrs. Burke does an outstanding job navigating the many challenges of scheduling, processing schedule changes, and enrolling and welcoming new students. Her knowledge, organization, patience, and willingness to help others keep our school running smoothly each day.
Mrs. Burke’s work often takes place behind the scenes, but her impact is felt throughout AMS. Our students, families, and staff benefit greatly from her dedication, and we would not be successful without her.
