The boys entered the first round of the playoffs last night as the #4 team, facing #1 Model. We played them over a week ago and fell short in a 2-1 loss.
The match was 0-0 through 30 minutes of play, and the boys were making great shots on goal with outstanding defensive stands. Eight minutes into the second half, Model scored following two brilliant saves by Jefferson Lopez. The rebound shot put us down 0-1.
The team kept fighting, but time was dwindling fast. With 30 seconds left in regulation, Jose Lara and Eduardo Rolan pushed the ball deep into Model territory, where the Model defense pushed the ball out of bounds for a corner kick.
We sent all 10 players into the box for the corner while Javier Aguilar-Molina took our corner kick and placed a beautiful ball into the box for an awaiting Kevin Trejo. One step and a shot scored a goal with barely seconds left to play, and the equalizer put us at 1-1.
Extra time consisted of two periods at 5 minutes each. The score remained tied, and we pushed it to PKs (penalty kicks).
Jefferson ended the night with over 15 saves and stood tall in the final kicks of the night.
We unfortunately came up just short and ended PKs 3-4 (out of 5 kicks).
Proud is an understatement, and words really can't describe how tough these boys battled for 70 minutes. Last night truly was a championship match, and all the boys gave it everything they had!
