Dear Gordon County Schools Families,

Thank you for your time and support in making Gordon County Schools the best it can be!

This sweet young lady, Valerie Vaquero in Ms. Mejei's second grade class, recently 'babysat" her Uncle's new puppy for free. And if you know puppies, they can be very demanding! What a kind thing to do, Valerie!
She enjoyed it so much she is going to start her own business one day, but she said her uncle will still get a family rate!!

Mr. Rylan Holden, a fourth grade student in Ms. Willis's class, was able to add a ladybug to our kindness tree this week!
Thank you Rylan for showing Belwood that being kind is kind of cool!
So many times kids forget that as they grow up!

This sweet young lady Mrs. Nancy Greeson from Blackwood Springs Baptist Church stopped by to see us last week and kindly donated a very generous amount of money to help support our local Helping Hands feeding program.
Blackwood Springs Baptist Church has been such a blessing to Belwood Elementary School staff and students over the years.
They have adopted us and we are SO THANKFUL for their support.
It really does take a village!

MATT FOX NAMED PRINCIPAL OF BELWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Gordon County Schools is proud to announce that Matt Fox has been named principal of Belwood Elementary School. His appointment was made official at tonight’s Board of Education meeting. He will begin his tenure in the 2025-2026 school year, replacing Monica Holt, who is transitioning into a district coordinator position at the central office.
Fox has served as Belwood’s assistant principal since 2021. Before that, he was an assistant principal at Red Bud Middle School and Sonoraville High School. He began his career in Gordon County teaching 7th grade social studies at Sonoraville Middle and Red Bud Middle School, earning recognition as Sonoraville Middle’s Teacher of the Year in 2011.
With a strong background in education and leadership, Fox is expected to build on Belwood Elementary’s tradition of excellence and student success. Gordon County Schools looks forward to his continued impact on students, staff, and the community in this new role.

We have to show off these adorable pictures from last week's Dr. Seuss Days!

Please join Belwood in thanking these amazing ladies right here, not only during National School Social Work Week, but all year long.
During the school year, school social workers are confronted with challenges, heightened anxieties, and anticipated difficulties.
However, these ladies face these challenges with not only strength and resilience, they unite our community to make positive change in the lives of our students, families, and school.
It’s a time to honor our school social workers who are working hard to ensure all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Pictured here are Kaitlyn Wilson, Alexandra Harris (School Social Worker Intern) and Ty Bonner! Belwood loves you ladies!

Belwood Elementary students got to meet Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat (Mr. Terry Allee) this week!
It was part of the Read Across America events here at the school.
This happens every year during the first week of March to promote the importance of reading. It's an important event every year.
"Reading can clearly be one of the most important and profound measures that determines success of a student. Our goal at Belwood is to promote literacy and to teach our kids that reading can be fun, and it can take you to places that you've never been, because that is what reading is all about," Mrs. Monica Holt, Belwood principal said.
