Cailen Ricks was Caught Being Good last week. Belwood had two buses that had to combine onto one. He helped the bus driver and bus riders by showing them how to navigating the extra students. Cailen demonstrated his leadership skills by volunteering to help get things organized and by using his strong communication abilities! Thank you Cailen for all you did to help!

Amaia Reyes- was Caught Being Good at Belwood this week. Amaia was picking up trash on the sidewalk and taking it to the trash can without being asked. Taking initiative means being able to see what needs to be done and deciding to finish the task on your own without waiting for someone else to request you to do it. Learning to take initiative is a behavior that helps kids navigate their lives with courage and optimism. Way to go Amaia showing initiative at school!

Kriz Ramos-Temaj was Caught Being Good recently. Kriz saw an upset PreK student who was crying and offered to translate so the upset student could get the comfort and care that she needed! The ability to recognize emotions in others, and to understand other people's perspectives on a situation is such a valuable life skill. We are so proud of Kriz!

Mr. Terry Allee visited the students at Belwood Elementary School to celebrate Johnny Appleseed's 249th birthday! Students were enamored with Mr. Allee's portrayal of the famous American Pioneer! Thank you Mr. Allee for making history come to life for our students!

School administrators have a critical leadership role to play in helping students become good readers. Reading aloud helps students learn how to use language to make sense of the world; it improves their listening skills, vocabulary and comprehension.
Children learn to love the sound of language before they even notice the existence of printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children also stimulates their imagination and motivates students to read. Thank you, Mr. Fox, for visiting Ms. Henson's PreK classroom to read The Cow That Went Oink, an amazing book about respecting differences!

Belwood Elementary School invites you to attend a support group to learn tools, gain insights and support from others who are also caring for another family members child.

Belwood had it's first Pajama and Hat day on Friday, Sept. 1st! If your student missed it, don't worry because another pajama and hat day is right around the corner on Friday, Sept. 29th! Did you know there are many good reasons for schools to have spirit and dress up days? More than just creating good vibes, school spirit and dress up days bring together students, staff, and even families, making everyone feel like they're part of a strong and connected community. This feeling of belonging leads to increased student attendance, achievement, involvement, and confidence.
All GREAT reasons to wear PJ's to school:)

Belwood had a special visitor earlier today. Ms. Kendra Pannell, Gordon County Schools Communications Coordinator, stopped by to snap photos for a special project she is working on. Thank you, Ms. Pannell for saying hello and making us smile(literally)😄

One of the most important things your child can do to achieve academic success is also one of the most basic - going to school every day! In fact, research has shown your child’s attendance record may be the biggest factor influencing their academic success. By attending class regularly, your child is more likely to keep up with their daily lessons and assignments and take quizzes and tests on time. #attendancematters

Ms. Bishop's class is at it again! Shown here are students practicing points of view by performing readers theater for the class! Understanding points of view helps students analyze literature, improves their critical thinking skills, and helps them understand the author's purpose. All of these skills contribute greatly to increasing comprehension! Way to go!

Ms. Childer's PALS class had special visitors recently!

"Grandparents are voices of the past and the door to the future. They provide us with the wisdom from a lifetime of experience that should never be undervalued." - Unknown
Belwood knows ALL Grandparents would love to come visit, but can't always make it. We feel the love and love you back!

Ms. Scroggs 2nd grade class has been reading the book Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco. Students were actually able to experience making a Thunder Cake this week.
From the book:
A loud clap of thunder booms, and rattles the windows of Grandma's old farmhouse. "This is Thunder Cake baking weather," calls Grandma, as she and her granddaughter hurry to gather the ingredients around the farm. A real Thunder Cake must reach the oven before the storm arrives. But the list of ingredients is long and not easy to find . . . and the storm is coming closer all the time!
Please ask your student how Thunder Cake tastes:). Thank you Ms. Scroggs for making the story come to life!

Miss Jackie Velasco was Caught Being Good this week at Belwood! Jackie saw a PreK student crying and immediately went to comfort and console the student until she stopped crying and felt better! Jackie demonstrated something called Empathy.
Having empathy enables us to build those social connections. To feel connected to others is hugely important for us to be our best. It is the very basis of human relationships and helps us to feel valued, loved, and cared for. Thank you Jackie for modeling empathy, promoting good health, and helping a younger student feel loved:)

Tomorrow, Sept. 15th, is an "At-Home Learning" day for Gordon County Schools!

Second graders in Ms. Bishop's class are shown here practicing their graphing skills! When students understand how graphs work, they unlock a quick way to understand and interpret data.
And by creating simple bar or line graphs, children learn to ask questions and gather information about themselves and their surroundings. They also learn to sort and organize objects based on information. They are having so much fun learning important life skills!
Good job Ms. Bishop's class!
