Belwood Elementary held its C.H.A.M.P.S. graduation today, celebrating students for completing this important program focused on making safe, healthy, and positive choices.
Led by Lieutenant Brian Brannon of the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department, the ceremony also included remarks from Major Ritchie Harris and Deputy Erik Ochoa, who shared the importance of the program and the impact it has on students across Gordon County Schools. Principal Matt Fox thanked families for the values they have shared with students at home to support the program and our partners at the Sheriff's Department for building on that foundation of making great choices for the future.
C.H.A.M.P.S. stands for Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety. The program was developed by the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and is designed to help fifth grade students build valuable life skills, make informed decisions, and contribute positively to their schools and communities. Gordon County Schools launched the program in partnership with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department, and it continues to support students through lessons on topics such as internet safety, social media, bullying, vaping, alcohol, drug awareness, peer pressure, choices and consequences, and personal safety.
We are proud of our Belwood Elementary students for their hard work and grateful to Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department for investing in our students through this meaningful program.

Belwood families,
We are looking forward to a great field day tomorrow, Friday, May 8th.
As always, a top priority is ensuring everyone has a great time while ensuring the safety of everyone. Please help us by utilizing the following procedures:
-If you plan to check your child out, make sure you communicate this with their teacher face to face, not through Dojo. If you check your child out, they are checked out for the remainder of the day. This is a safety measure to ensure all students are accounted for.
-We ask you do not use food service providers such as Door Dash or Uber Eats. Parking will be very limited on this day and often times these drivers do not know where to go. You are free to bring food and drink from home.
Have a great evening!
