It is with great pleasure we announce Belwood Elementary School has been awarded the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness for the 2025-2026 school year.
This year, applications were reviewed by representatives from the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, Georgia Public Safety Training Center, Office of Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner as well as the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
These experts in the field reviewed our submission and decided it met the standards of excellence required for recognition.

We are excited we are achieving school safety best practices!

🌟Today, we have a very special announcement. Each year, we recognize one teacher who consistently goes above and beyond for our students, our staff, and our school community. This person shows up every day with a commitment to excellence, a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.🌟

🧡Our Teacher of the Year is someone who demonstrates perseverance, teamwork, and dedication in everything they do. They build strong relationships with students, collaborate with colleagues, and always put kids first. Whether facing challenges or celebrating successes, this teacher remains focused on growth—for their students and for themselves. 🧡

🎉It is our honor to announce that this year’s Teacher of the Year is, Mrs. Julie Psaila!🎉

This is Mrs. Psaila's 23rd year of teaching. Currently, Mrs. Psaila serves as a fourth grade ELA teacher at Belwood.
In addition, Mrs. Psaila serves on the guiding coalition, has served as a mentor teacher, serves on the local school governance team and is a Georgia Leads Co-observer.

Belwood Elementary 1st grade teacher Angela Raley’s class transitioned from reviewing their Decodable books to writing and illustrating a story about firefighters based on class discussion and new vocabulary. Students applied what they have learned as they worked through the writing process and expressed their ideas through both words and pictures. Mrs. Raley had students excited about their writing as they shared their progress!

Decodable books are specially designed reading materials for beginning readers. They include only the letter sound patterns and high frequency words students have already been taught, allowing them to practice decoding skills, build confidence, and strengthen reading accuracy using familiar and systematic text.

Congratulations again to Belwood Elementary for winning the inaugural Gordon County Schools Technology Winners’ Cup! These technology competitors, along with REACH teacher and Robotics Team sponsor Tim Gilreath, were presented the Cup by Instructional Technology Coordinator Whitney Prather. Mrs. Prather, who leads and organizes the district's Technology Competition, was very proud of their accomplishment and is excited about all district winners who will compete later this month at the regional tech competition in Lindale, GA.

Beginning this year, the Technology Winners’ Cup is awarded to the elementary school with the highest average scores on locally submitted technology projects for the Gordon County Schools Technology Competition. The trophy will stay at Belwood until next year’s competition, where they will have to defend it against our other 9 schools.

Thank you to the school sponsors, teachers, mentors, and volunteers who have helped our students excel in STEM projects. They couldn’t do it without the support of our community and educators!
