Congratulations to our winning Young Authors' participants!
You have made us all proud here at Fairmount Elementary.

PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK: Use real world examples to teach math at home.
Point out ways that people use math every day to pay bills, balance their checkbooks, figure out their net earnings, make change, and tip at restaurants. Involve older children in projects that incorporate geometric and algebraic concepts like planting a garden, building a bookshelf, or figuring how long it will take to drive to your family vacation destination.

FAIRMOUNT ELEMENTARY STUDENT WINS 2023 SYSTEM SPELLING BEE
CALHOUN, GA – Fairmount Elementary student, Bawi Bik, claimed the title as the 2023 Gordon County Schools (GCS) System Spelling Bee Champion on Thursday, January 18, at the Gordon Central High School Blue Box Theater.
The winning word Bik spelled to seal his victory was "angora” which means “a yarn of a long-haired, usually white, rabbit used for knitting.”
The annual spelling bee consisted of individual winners from each Gordon County Schools elementary and middle school, competing to determine the system representative at the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) Region 1 Spelling Bee on February 25th.
Ashworth Middle School student, Emily Demain, captured second place, and Avery Wiley of Tolbert Elementary School placed third.
Bik now advances as the GCS representative at the Region 1 competition, with Demain serving as the GCS alternate.

I just received this information from the transportation dept.
As of this 4:30 this morning. Sam Hunt, Mauldin, Covington Bridge, Knight Bottom, and Langford Rd are still closed or impassable for a school bus. I can get a bus into Mt Olive Rd and service it using B.Johnson Rd. but Mt Olive and Old Boone Ford, and Pinhook will be the only roads that we can service for route FES-6. We will service Mt. Olive and Old Boone Ford and then stage a bus at Mt. Olive Church from 6:15-6:25 if anyone wants to meet the bus there.
Thank you,
Mrs. Champion
January Menu

Everyone is invited to participate in our dress up days this week. We tried to pick ideas that would be things kids might already have at home.

Don't miss out shopping for your family and friends at Santa's Gift Shop!

Fairmount students are super excited to have our parents and visitors to start joining us again during our school lunches. This will begin after our return from Thanksgiving break. In order to keep the crowds down to a minimum and the cafeteria lunch lines flowing, we are asking all visitors to come on their child's last name.

FES families,
Power has been restored to Fairmount Elementary. We will continue to operate as scheduled. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Thank you,
Gordon County Schools Communications

Dear FES Families,
Fairmount Elementary is currently experiencing an unscheduled power outage. Georgia Power is aware of the situation and is in communication with our Facilities Director about power restoration efforts.
The school will remain open today and campus operations will continue to operate normally, as scheduled, including the after school program. We do still have access to our emails, working restrooms, and we are prepared to serve lunch to our students.
Although today’s situation is not ideal, we are making the best of it and we are operating as normal of a school day as we can for our FES staff and students.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Our number one priority is keeping our students and staff safe.
We will communicate with you if anything changes.
Thank you!

We encourage all members of our #OneBIGFamily community to complete the Gordon County Moving Forward Together Survey from our friends at the NW GA Regional Commission.
This survey offers the opportunity for people that live or work in Gordon County to provide guidance about improving various aspects of our community.

Fairmount Parents,
Children will be allowed to wear their costumes to school on Monday,
October 31st. Your child’s safety is always our first concern here at Fairmount. We ask that you guide their selection of costumes to allow them to comfortably work and learn throughout the day, as well as be able to independently use the restroom. Any items that encourage violence or could be scary to other children are inappropriate for children at school. All accessories to costumes should be left at home. We are not responsible for lost or damaged items. Students are not allowed to wear full - faced masks. Thank you for your cooperation in making this a fun and safe day at school. We are looking forward to an enjoyable day!

Thank you FES parents for making our Scholastics Book Fair a success .

PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK: Encourage creative problem-solving with your children. Problem-solving is the basis of good mathematical thinking, and the problems don't have to involve numbers. Ask questions like, "How many different ways are there to walk to school?" or "How many different ways can I measure flour to get half a cup?" Try to come up with more than one solution for everyday problems.
