Due to the latest weather forecast from GEMA indicating the potential for severe weather in the northwest Georgia region, Gordon County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
This precautionary measure is being taken to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families amid potentially hazardous and unpredictable winter weather conditions. Gordon County Schools will continue to assess conditions in coordination with local and state partners.
Updated information regarding Tuesday’s school day will be provided as weather conditions are monitored tomorrow. Families should be prepared for the possibility of additional school closure dates and are encouraged to remain informed by our official district communication channels, including phone calls, text messages, social media, and the Gordon County Schools website.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as the safety of our school community remains our highest priority.

Weather conditions expected this weekend and early next week could impact school operations, and Gordon County Schools wants families and staff to be aware that there may be potential school closures and/or delays.
District leaders are working with local and state agencies to watch conditions closely and make decisions soon with the safety of students and employees as the top priority. Updates will be shared through phone calls, text messages, social media, and our school and district websites.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we prioritize safety for our school community.

Congratulations to the 2025-2026 Fairmount Elementary Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Mandy Futch!
Here are a few examples of why she is the Teacher of the Year.
Colleague statements:
Mrs. Futch consistently goes above and beyond for our FES students both inside and outside the classroom. Many of her acts of kindness and support for families go unrecognized, yet Mrs. Futch continues to serve her community with a humble heart. Mrs. Futch is a familiar face at rec league sporting events, cheering on both current and former students. You can also find Mrs. Futch at most SHS and RBMS school events, showing unwavering support for students long after they leave Fairmount Elementary. In the classroom, Mrs. Futch knows the individual needs of each of her students. She builds strong connections, inspires confidence, and motivates them to be their very best. Our school is a better place because of her dedication, compassion, and commitment. Mrs. Futch is truly an unsung hero, and she is more than deserving of this recognition.
Mrs. Futch has honorably served our country, and she continues to serve our community each day at Fairmount Elementary School. Mandy is an exceptional teacher whose genuine love for her students is evident in all she does. She is always willing to lend a hand wherever she is needed. Her dedication does not go unnoticed. It is clear that the students are truly fond of her and greatly benefit from her commitment.
From Mrs. Champion, Principal:
Mrs. Mandy Futch exemplifies excellence in education through her unwavering dedication to students, colleagues, and our school community at Fairmount Elementary School. As a proud veteran, she brings leadership, resilience, and a deep sense of service into her classroom every day. Her commitment to fostering a supportive, engaging learning environment makes a lasting impact on our students and reflects the very best of the teaching profession. We are honored to recognize Mrs. Futch as our Teacher of the Year.
