Congratulations to the winners of the 2025–2026 Gordon County Schools Technology Competition!
Students in grades 3–12 from across the district showcased their creativity and innovation by submitting original technology projects. Students competed individually or in pairs/teams across grade bands (3–4, 5–6, 7–8, 9–10, 11–12) in categories such as 3D Modeling, Animation, Game Design, Programming, Robotics, Video Production, Web & Mobile Apps, and more.
This year’s competition doubled in participation, with 200+ students, 138 projects, and representation from every campus. From those entries, 38 winning projects by 60 students were selected to advance to the Northwest Georgia Technology Competition on January 30 at Georgia Highlands College!

Congratulations to STAR Student Seth Kolterman and STAR Teacher Shannon Rainwater!
Gordon Central High School's 2026 STAR Student is Seth Kolterman. Seth is the son of Vicky Latimer and Tim Kolterman and plans to attend the Air Force Academy. He selected Gordon Central High School English teacher Shannon Rainwater as his STAR Teacher because she taught him how to think critically about literary works and to write efficiently for competitions. Seth appreciates the impact Mrs. Rainwater has had on him with understanding literature.
The Student Teacher Achievement Program (STAR) is sponsored, administered, and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation (PAGE) and the PAGE Foundation. Since its inception in 1958, the STAR program has honored more than 29,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having the most influence on their academic achievement. To obtain the STAR nomination, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

Our Gordon CCA FBLA students represented our schools with excellence at the Region Leadership Conference in Ringgold! Congratulations to Preslie Parish (1st Place – Public Speaking - Gordon Central) and Julio Rodriguez (1st Place – Intro to Business Procedures - Sonoraville), along with all of our students who competed and showcased their leadership skills. Blizzard has been an integral part of the Gordon Central football program since 2022, serving as Defensive Coordinator during a critical period of rebuilding and growth. Since joining the coaching staff, the Warriors have advanced to the Georgia State A Playoffs in both 2024 and 2025, earning recognition for their resilience and renewed competitiveness. His leadership was honored with Georgia Class A-D1 Defensive Coordinator of the Year (2024) and Assistant Coach of the Year (2025).
“Coach Blizzard has been a cornerstone of stability for our program,” said Dr. Amy Parker, Principal of Gordon Central High School. “His commitment to our athletes and the recent success of Warrior football has been unwavering. I am confident he understands what it takes to build a winning culture both on and off the field.”
Blizzard’s coaching philosophy emphasizes not only athletic excellence but also academic achievement and character development. With a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership and certifications in Special Education and Physical Education, he has consistently focused on developing well-rounded student-athletes who succeed in the classroom and in life.
Before joining Gordon Central, Blizzard served as Defensive Coordinator at East Paulding High School and Sprayberry High School, where he helped lead teams to multiple playoff appearances and earned numerous coaching honors. His career began at Tennessee Technological University, where he coached the defensive line and managed football operations.
As Head Coach, Blizzard aims to continue the momentum of recent seasons and build a program rooted in discipline, teamwork, and community pride.
“I’m honored to lead this program and excited about the future of Gordon Central football,” said Blizzard. “We’ve laid a strong foundation, and now it’s time to take the next step together.”

Our school system prepares Gordon County high school students with life after graduation through career planning and pathway courses. Families work with our high schools during registration to help map out a minimum of three related Georgia Career Clusters to help identify potential career paths and navigate to greater success in the real world.
The purpose of graduating with a completed career pathway is to show students the importance of what they are learning in the classroom, whether they want to attend a two-year college, a four-year university, serve in our military, or go straight into the workforce. By taking courses in advanced academics, world languages, fine arts, or Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), our students are better prepared and ready for life after high school.
Gordon County Schools is very proud of its 2025 senior class, and we look forward to seeing this continued success with our upcoming graduates.

Students who were unable to take exams today due to the evacuation will have the opportunity to make up exams after the holiday break in January. More details will be shared after the break.

CCRPI scores are calculated using multiple indicators that measure student achievement, progress, readiness, and closing gaps. A key component of the CCRPI is student performance and growth on state assessments, including the Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) tests. Additional factors include graduation rates, progress of English Learners, and indicators of college and career readiness.
Content Mastery: Looks at how well students are performing on Georgia Milestones tests in core subject areas, representing their level of academic proficiency.
Literacy: Highlights student performance specifically in reading and writing. Literacy is a critical indicator of long-term academic success and is closely monitored as part of both readiness and content mastery.
Progress – Math: Tracks student growth over time on the Georgia Milestones in Mathematics, regardless of their starting point. It shows how much academic progress students are making year to year.
