Understanding that many of these children spend long hours in court, our 2024–2025 NHS members set out to create bags filled with items to provide comfort and engagement. Last year’s members initiated the project, and this year’s members proudly brought it to completion. Each bag included coloring books, crayons, markers, stuffed animals, fidgets, word searches, block kits, snacks, water, and more.
Funds for the project were raised through sales at December’s Mistletoe Market, and we are incredibly grateful to those who generously donated items and support, including Leah Tidwell, Dollar Tree on Dews Pond Road, Five Below, Gordon Central, and our NHS members themselves.
We are proud of our students for their compassion, initiative, and commitment to serving our community. #ExtraordinaryGCHS #GCHSNHS

AP Biology students in Mrs. Watt’s class are investigating how environmental conditions—like substrate concentration, temperature, and surface area—affect enzyme activity. Science at work! 🔬📊

We hope that our students, staff, and families have remained safe during this recent period of severe weather. The safety and well-being of our school community remain our top priority, and we appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by our families and employees.

Due to the latest weather forecast from GEMA indicating the potential for severe weather in the northwest Georgia region, Gordon County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
This precautionary measure is being taken to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families amid potentially hazardous and unpredictable winter weather conditions. Gordon County Schools will continue to assess conditions in coordination with local and state partners.
Updated information regarding Tuesday’s school day will be provided as weather conditions are monitored tomorrow. Families should be prepared for the possibility of additional school closure dates and are encouraged to remain informed by our official district communication channels, including phone calls, text messages, social media, and the Gordon County Schools website.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as the safety of our school community remains our highest priority.

Weather conditions expected this weekend and early next week could impact school operations, and Gordon County Schools wants families and staff to be aware that there may be potential school closures and/or delays.
District leaders are working with local and state agencies to watch conditions closely and make decisions soon with the safety of students and employees as the top priority. Updates will be shared through phone calls, text messages, social media, and our school and district websites.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we prioritize safety for our school community.

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, Alberto Garcia, a student at Gordon Central High School, was honored at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta as one of the winners of the 2nd Annual Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites High School Art Contest.
This statewide contest invites students to create original artwork inspired by one of Georgia’s 66 State Parks and Historic Sites. With 266 submissions—twice as many as last year—only 11 entries were selected for the final showcase. Alberto earned a spot in the Top 10 with his artwork titled “Protect the Okefenokee,” inspired by Stephen C. Foster State Park.
Alberto’s artwork was displayed in the Capitol’s South Atrium for legislators, guests, and the public to enjoy. During the ceremony, Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Walter Rabon delivered remarks praising the creativity and environmental focus of Georgia’s young artists. Additional recognition was given by State Parks leadership and the legislators who helped establish the contest.
A group photo from the event shows Alberto standing proudly among the winners, representing Gordon Central High School at the state level.
Another photo captures Alberto alongside Representative Matt Barton, who represents Gordon County, and Representative Marvin Lim, one of the sponsors of the contest.
Alberto’s accomplishment highlights both his artistic talent and his passion for celebrating and protecting Georgia’s natural spaces. Gordon Central High School is proud to recognize his dedication and creativity.
Congratulations to Alberto Garcia on this outstanding achievement!
