Congratulations to our May Board of Education Recognitions! Pamela Aguilar (SHS), Harrison Hughes (GCHS), and Anna Caroline Parker (GCHS), Governor’s Honors Program Finalists Alberto Garcia-Melchor, 1st in the 2025 State Congressional Art Competition Alicia Smith, 7th Grade Young Georgia Authors State Winner Emily Rossberg, 2025-2026 Gordon County Schools Teacher of the Year Congratulations to Pamela Aguilar from Sonoraville High School, Harrison Hughes from Gordon Central High School, and Anna Caroline Parker from Gordon Central High School for being named as finalists for the Governor’s Honors Program. GHP is a four-week residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students hosted at Georgia Southern University. It provides an enriching academic experience for students who demonstrate exceptional skill, creativity, and passion in their areas of interest. The selection process is rigorous, with nominations, interviews, and evaluations. Great job to these juniors! Congratulations to Gordon Central High School student Alberto Garcia-Melchor for placing 1st in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Georgia’s 11th Congressional district. His submitted artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, where artwork from contest winners across the nation will be on display. Congratulations to Ashworth Middle School student Alicia Smith for being named Georgia's 7th grade Young Georgia Author state winner from Ashworth Middle School. Her poem, titled “And I Began to Hate,” was a very powerful take on modern technology and society. For a literary work to be named a state grade level winner, it must win at the school level, then district, then region, and finally across the state. This is a huge accomplishment and we're very proud of her for her writing! Congratulations to Emily Rossberg, District Teacher of the Year! Emily is a 3rd grade teacher at Tolbert Elementary who is in her second year of teaching at TES. She has fifteen years of teaching experience, where she spent the previous 13 years in West Yellowstone, teaching multiple grade levels and taking on several leadership and coaching roles. She was an absolute joy to watch during finalist judging, and the judges noted her joyful classroom environment and how every student felt confident to share and present out loud. She is an amazing teacher, and we are very proud of her for representing our school district.
