Pre-K registration for Gordon County Schools opens today and closes March 6th. The Pre-K Lottery will take place March 27th. Children must be four years old on or before September 1st. Children who are five years old by September 1st may attend Pre-K if they have not previously attended a Georgia Pre-K.

We are proud to recognize Red Bud Middle School eighth grade social studies teacher Tara Berry on her acceptance into the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center Teacher Fellowship, a paid, year-long program for educators in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi!
This prestigious program supports teachers in integrating the stories of Medal of Honor recipients and the character values of courage, commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism into classroom instruction through place-based learning and curriculum-aligned resources.
Mrs. Berry was inspired to apply after learning more about the fellowship at the 2025 Georgia Council for the Social Studies Conference, where she also presented with colleagues on their professional learning experience in Germany. She believes deeply in the power of location-based learning and professional collaboration to bring history to life for students.
Through this fellowship, Mrs. Berry will collaborate with fellow educators across the Southeast to design meaningful, standards-aligned lessons that connect real people and real stories to both historical understanding and character development. This opportunity represents professional growth as well as a meaningful way to honor the legacies of extraordinary individuals by sharing their stories with the next generation.

Due to the latest weather forecast from GEMA indicating the potential for severe weather in the northwest Georgia region, Gordon County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
This precautionary measure is being taken to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families amid potentially hazardous and unpredictable winter weather conditions. Gordon County Schools will continue to assess conditions in coordination with local and state partners.
Updated information regarding Tuesday’s school day will be provided as weather conditions are monitored tomorrow. Families should be prepared for the possibility of additional school closure dates and are encouraged to remain informed by our official district communication channels, including phone calls, text messages, social media, and the Gordon County Schools website.

Each honoree consistently goes above and beyond to support students, build strong relationships, and contribute positively to their school communities. Their dedication, care, and leadership are evident each day, and their influence helps strengthen and inspire those around them.
The 10 school-level Teachers of the Year will now advance to the next phase of the selection process, where Gordon County Schools will identify its District Teacher of the Year finalists. The District Teacher of the Year will then represent Gordon County Schools at the state level.

Weather conditions expected this weekend and early next week could impact school operations, and Gordon County Schools wants families and staff to be aware that there may be potential school closures and/or delays.
District leaders are working with local and state agencies to watch conditions closely and make decisions soon with the safety of students and employees as the top priority. Updates will be shared through phone calls, text messages, social media, and our school and district websites.

We are incredibly proud of all the students who competed after earning first place in their respective school spelling bees. Winning at the school level is a significant achievement, and we commend each participant for his or her hard work and preparation. The competition began with eight outstanding elementary and middle school students and featured more than 50 spelled words before narrowing to our two finalists, Aaliya and Izac.
A special thank-you to Mrs. Beth Herod, Director of Early Learning and Elementary Education, along with everyone who helped, for hosting this event. It was wonderful to see school leaders and families in attendance, cheering on these bright and talented students!

Decodable books are specially designed reading materials for beginning readers. They include only the letter sound patterns and high frequency words students have already been taught, allowing them to practice decoding skills, build confidence, and strengthen reading accuracy using familiar and systematic text.

C.H.A.M.P.S. stands for Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety. More than 400 5th grade students across all six elementary schools participate in this program, which covers a wide range of topics that matter to students, including alcohol, bullying, choices and consequences, internet safety and social media, prescription and illicit drug abuse, tobacco, stress, avoiding violence, and more.
We appreciate the continued partnership with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department and the important role this program plays in helping students make safe and healthy decisions.

Beginning this year, the Technology Winners’ Cup is awarded to the elementary school with the highest average scores on locally submitted technology projects for the Gordon County Schools Technology Competition. The trophy will stay at Belwood until next year’s competition, where they will have to defend it against our other 9 schools.
