Calhoun, GA – September 25, 2024 – Presently, Georgia is under a State of Emergency. Due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Helene and the potential for hazardous conditions, Gordon County Schools will be closed for all students and staff on Thursday, September 26, 2024 and Friday, September 27, 2024. We appreciate our Gordon County Schools bus drivers for everything they do to safely transport students to and from school and events. Thank you to our Transportation Department for providing pictures from Friday's bus driver training during our virtual learning day. The drivers rotated through three different stations:
Station #1- Gordon County Fire Department conducted live fire extinguisher training. All drivers operated an extinguisher and put out a fire.
Station #2- State Certification Course to be Class C and B fuelers. This trains drivers on what to do in case of spills, fires, and other hazards.
Station #3- Motor Carrier Compliance Division updated procedures training. All drivers were trained on new expectations from MCCD.
Great work!
Gordon County Schools would like to thank the North Georgia Electric Membership Foundation and their Operation Round Up for selecting GCS for a $4,100 grant toward our Helping Hands Ending Hunger Initiative. HHEH empowers students to rescue uneaten food from school meals and join hands with their communities to alleviate childhood food insecurity, reduce food waste, enhance educational outcomes, and shape a healthier world!
This initiative is made possible in part by the generous donations of participating NGEMC members in the Operation Round Up program. Thank you to our participating community partnerships. For more information, please visit https://www.gcbe.org/page/helping-hands.
