GORDON COUNTY SCHOOLS WELCOMES ESTEEMED EDUCATOR BACK HOME AS NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Gordon County Schools (GCS) is delighted to announce the return of an esteemed educator and leader, Dr. Rebecca Owen, who will be joining GCS as the newly appointed Assistant Principal of Ashworth Middle School (AMS). Dr. Owen brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted connection to the school system, having previously served as a dedicated teacher at AMS from 2008 to 2019. Having embarked on a transformative journey in education, Dr. Owen rejoins Gordon County Schools after a brief period of service as an educator, academic coach, and instructional specialist with Rome City Schools. Her invaluable experiences during this time have further enriched her expertise and honed her leadership skills, making her a valuable asset to the Ashworth Middle School community. Throughout her tenure in education, Dr. Owen has demonstrated unwavering dedication, a passion for student growth, and an unyielding commitment to academic excellence. Her students and peers alike benefited from her innovative teaching methods and passionate approach to education, leaving a lasting impact on the school communities she has served. With an intimate knowledge of Ashworth Middle and the community it serves, Dr. Owen is well-positioned to collaborate with the faculty, staff, and students in implementing strategies that further enrich the academic programs and overall student experience. Let's ensure our kids have a safe and enjoyable journey to school every day. 🎒📚 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY TIPS - AT THE BUS STOP: •Arrive at the bus stop five minutes before the bus is scheduled to come. •Wait at the bus stop in a safe place, 12 feet away from the road. •Wait in an orderly group: Form an orderly line as the bus approaches, with the first student in line standing 12 feet away from traffic. •If you miss the bus, return home and get help or phone a parent/guardian for assistance •NEVER chase after the bus. •NEVER wear headphones/ear buds or hoodies while loading or unloading the bus: the driver needs to be able to make eye contact and communicate. •NEVER walk or drive to another bus stop:your bus driver will not be expecting you. #SchoolBusSafety #GoCoSchools #OneBIGFamily

SSAC: Members of the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council recently met for the last meeting of the 2022-23 school year. For the last several weeks, students have been surveying their peers at all GCS middle and high schools to gain insight about their experiences. SSAC members then compiled the data and presented their findings to GCS Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Fraker and the Principals of each secondary school. Each group included key points where they felt changes could be made, and gave several suggestions as to how they would like to see the school system implement those changes. The meeting concluded with an "Amazing Race" style activity for the group, and a catered lunch provided by our Community Partner and SSAC Program Sponsor, North Georgia National Bank! #GoCoSchools #GETGCS #OneBIGFamily
