Boys won their matchup against Model 5-0 on 8th grade night. All 8th graders were able to play together on the field for their final regular season home game. We are back in action Thursday @ Coosa. Playoffs begin March 19th at Model. Winners advance to the championship here at Ashworth on 3/26. The match began with a little more excitement than we are used to. After an unintentional handball off of our defender's elbow, Model was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty box. Adrian Rubio came up big with a leaping finger tip save to keep us 0-0 after one minute of play. The boys settled in and got to work maintaining majority possession and creating several opportunities to shoot on goal but came up short with some solid saves by Model's keeper. Genaro Navarro Falcon got the scoring started with some nice footwork and a well placed shot that glanced off the keeper's glove into the back of the net. 1-0 going into the half. Bentley Blackwell came up from his defensive position to take his first corner kick of the season. I couldn't have placed the ball better if it were in my hands in the middle of the box. Bentley's corner carried beautifully right into the center of the box in front of the keeper where our shifty Edwin Artola Flores leapt to meet the ball for a brilliant header and the second goal of the game. Artola got to work quickly after the reset and used his own brand of brilliant footwork to get close to a striking position. His shot carried hard into the upper right corner right along the post and off the keeper's fingertips again. This is the second goal for Artola on the night and within just under two minutes of his last header. Boys lead 3-0 Edwin earned another shot on goal after he was shoved from behind in the penalty box. Artola buries the PK and gives us a 4-0 and earns the hat trick for the night. The last goal of the evening came off a free kick cross and assist by Edwin. His cross rattled off the foot of Jose Lara who was positioned perfectly in the box but couldn't get a shot as the ball rolled right in front of Joel Menchaca who used that great left footed touch to leave a no doubter and the final goal of the game. Boys win 5-0 and remain undefeated on the year. We have netted 38 goals on the season while allowing 2. Thursday is the final region matchup against a strong undefeated Coosa team. Easton Allen, Alex Morales, Andrew Vicente, Knoah Joynes, Matthew Morse, Lio Barrios Hidalgo and Naythan Alvarez were all able to play on 8th grade night.

AMS Tennis Warriors had their first match of the season last night against Gladden. Thank you for all who came out and supported the Warrior tennis team. Our boys fell short tonight losing a close match 2-3; with Finn McDavid winning his singles line 8-6, and Tripper Burnett and Kiran Leslie winning their doubles line 8-6. Ethan Hall and Jayden Thomas kept it close to try and give us a win but fell short in a match that went to a tie breaker set 9-10. The girls came away with a 3-2 win against Gladden. Mya Borne and Farah Mihill came out of their singles matches both with a great 8-0 win. Kierstin Rawls played very hard and rallied back to win her singles match in a 9-7 win. Both doubles teams played in their first match ever and showed hard work and dedication to improving as the match went along. With first doubles being Emilyn Keeton and Piper Watson and the second doubles being Avery Wiley and Mackenzie Cascella. Our next match is away at Gladden on Thursday with tennis starting at 4:15. Thank you for your support!

Boys soccer traveled to Chattooga last night. The boys came away with a 9-1 win and are now 4-0 on the season. The Warriors are back in action tomorrow for a non-region matchup @ Adairsville. Edwin Artola-Flores started the night off right after that initial stalemate. Edwin squared up a shot from the top of the box and sent a nice shot over the keeper's head into the top right corner to make it 1-0. Andrew Vicente stepped up big time starting at midfield and played a quick touch off the goal kick from the keeper. He fired his shot to the far left away from the keeper to get us a 2-0 lead. We ended the first half 3-0 when Wildon Garcia hit a beautifully well placed shot after the throw-in assist from Edwin. Following the half, Joel Menchaca had a beautiful touch on the ball and an easy pass to Bentley Blackwell who moved from centerback to midfield. Bentley made a beautiful left footed shot that hooked hard left into the back of the net for 4-0 within one minute of play resuming. Also the first goal on the season for Bentley. Santos Champet-Herrera sent a nice cross into the box that hit Joel Menchaca's foot and found Kevin Trejo for an easy tap in goal and a 5-0 lead. This would be the first of many goals for Kevin who stepped in at right wing. The next three goals came from Kevin Trejo who ended up with four goals on the night, including the hat trick. He moved the ball incredibly well and made the most of his opportunities to shoot. This is the first hat trick of the season for Kevin and a career high in goals for him as well. Kevin crossed the ball into the box on his second to last attempt to a wide-open Santos Champet, Lio Barrios and Joel Menchaca. Menchaca got a foot on the ball near the goal and tapped in for an 8-1 lead. Santos capped the night on a through pass from Edwin Artola to end the game at 9-1. Knoah Joynes played a great second half at keeper for his first full half of soccer as keeper. He ended up with 3 saves. Adrian Escobar earned a PK after being fouled in the box and had a great shot with an even better block by the Chattooga keeper who had at least 10 saves on the night Easton Allen, Javier Aguilar-Molina, Brantley Baker, Lio Barrios, Alex Morales, Andrew Vicente, Matthew Morse, Mason Bingiel-Alderete, Axel Pineda, Brandon Morales, Randy Ramos, and Fabian Sanchez all played incredibly well throughout the match. Brantley Baker, Javier Molina, and Alex Morales all had great play at the wings and several shots that were on target but once again blocked by the Chattooga keeper who certainly kept them in the game. We will be back in action at Adairsville on Wednesday (3/5) for our non-region matchup. Work. Win. Warriors!
